Hello all,

New to this board, have picked up some good info already, Thanks!

I just picked up a restored 79T/A with the WS6/400. It does not have power steering. Was wondering if power steering was an option or if they all came with it and it was removed along the way somehow during restoration. How hard is it to put power steering back in?

Well, if the steering box is a power box, then it's easy, if it's a manual box it's a bit more work, but definately worth it either way!!

ALL 1970-81 Trans ams came with power steering as standard equipment.

I believe it became standard on ALL Firebirds built after 1973.

You'll have to look at your steering box.Your car came standard with P/S so your steering box should have 2 threaded fittings on the top.If not,then someone changed it to manual.
Also,what about the p/s pump? is it there? it would be on the drivers side close to the steering box.if not,you'll need a pump,bracket that mounts it to the block,belt and hoses.
Not very difficult or expensive to convert back to p/s and well worth it.
