Well, whoever came up with the idea to paint a red roof on those cars back in the day should be shot. That red roof looks like $h!t on what is otherwise a beautiful car.

A red roof on a blue/silver car looks like $h!t, period. You're only disagreeing with me because you have a hard-on for outspoken conservatives.

Further pics have surfaced of the Stokes Firebird. Fender lettering says 'Firebird by Pontiac'. Car is 426 powered , not Pontiac powered, just for the record.
That explains why I had never heard of it.

A buddy of mine picked up a '64 Catalina not long ago. Guess what he's going to do?

I was at an indoor car show all weekend (see http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...=594667&page=2 for photos) and Mr Wangers and I were working the same display.

During a break in the action I asked him specifically about the red roof/grey roof differences. He said that the car started out with the body colored roof because, at that time, it was intended to be more of a "stock" racer. When GM banned any activity in racing that essentially caused the creation of the "FX" classes. That allowed Jim to deviate more from stock and do something more eye-catching with the paint scheme, so the roof was painted red at a later date.
