i could be compeletly wrong here, but, haven't I've been hearing negative reactions when somebody puts that 455 HO 'image' as a sticker on their airfilter on their 455 H.O that it's wrong as it's a buick one, not pontiac?

then why make a shirt out of it if its not pontiac??

The 455 HO sticker on a 71-72 455 HO car is totally correct. Pure Pontiac!

Can someone tell me how to remove the brads that hold the heat crossover pan on the 488945 intake manifold? There are two on the bottom bradded to the manifold and one on top that is bradded to the crossover. I'd like to separate the parts for cleaning prior to reinstalling.

Secondly, when going back together, does everything get painted blue, top and bottom of manifold, including the crossover and light gauge metal retainer parts? These look like they were black. I don't know if these parts have been fooled with before and since the manifold is not painted maybe so, they could have been painted in a previous restoration.

I'm fairly certain the engines were painted after assembly, so if that's the case there probably wasn't a lot of paint under the manifold.

Any pictures of documented original teardowns would be great. Thank you.

Thought I 'd post some pics here of what I believe to be original (factory installed) 1972 Firebird front exhaust pipes.

Pulled these of a relatively low mile 455 HO Formula about 10 years back.

This car was pretty darn original & still had the transverse (original?) muffler.


It's hard to believe that the factory would build an engine that produced nearly 500 ft.lbs of torque & expected it to breath through a pair of "squashed peashooters"

Them be ugly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SD's are probably as ugly n squashed?

So do purists who want every clamp and paint daub right, actually put those things back on that way? And if not, the whole picking apart cars thing we all get a kick out of doing here needs revamped standards I will never seriously look at a resto again unless it has squashed exhausts!!!!!
