Need some help guys... I was running an Edelbrock Performer intake with a Holley 750 with an Edelbrock dropped based cleaner and a 3" K&N filter that cleared... now my new intake is an inch taller and I'm trying a 2" filter with shorter vent tubes and I'm still having clearance issues. Thoughts? Ideas?
How much drop does the stock/repop Ram Air air cleaner have in it? I'm an inch taller than stock/e-Performer now. Anyone running a similar intake under a Formula hood? lmk V/R, Ty

not sure a stock/repop base will work with a high rise intake manifold, try this site as I know some are runing these modified with the RPM intake.

Ty, I don't think it is gonna' happen without some cutting of the ductwork on the bottom of the hood and using a drop base cleaner with 2.5" filter. Even with that, it may not clear. I concluded that the performance lost with the 2" air cleaner negated anything to be gained with the intake manifold to begin with. If running a Q-jet, this is one of those situations where the stock manifold or an HO aluminum repro manifold is likely the best choice. If you have a Holley, the Torker II might work but I doubt it. IMO, there is no way a RPM is going to fit with any type of air cleaner that is going to keep up with an engine that needs a RPM. I gave up on mine and have gone to a T/A shaker set up. I have PTFB's air cleaner on for now. It will be replaced by WFO's or a will fabricate something else over the winter.

The performer/stock is as high as you can go. I had to mill the performer as it was for a stock throttle cable hook up, but I run Q-Jet. Although my car isnt on the road yet,
I have set my hood on car with boots and it all works..

Thanks Guys! I know it's close and I'll make it work somehow... new intake is about the same height as a Torker II and may just need to be milled .24-.5 at some point... for now I'll run the biggest dropped base I can find... anyone know how to get in touch with Larry Navarro? I tried his old WFO email but nothing yet... maybe one of his bases or something similar (?) that'll clear the linkage and then I'll shorten the vents on the Holley to get some more clearance. This is all on my new 440-stroker so I don't want to go back to an e-Performer like I had before... please email me at [email protected] if you have any ideas on the dropped base!! Most I could find so far is the Proform 2.25" base.
Thanks again!!! V/R, Ty

OLDFLM72 have you checked out the Hurricane intake designed by "Pacific performance"??? I'm running that intake on a 463 pump gas motor with 87cc Edelbrock heads making roughly 550hp in my Formula..... The initial intake fit was marginal to say the least, but with some fiddling and port matching and so on it worked out well in the end.. Hood clearance wasn't an issue at all and certainly worth looking at to see if it'll work in your application....

Thanks for the reply! This 440 makes peak power at around 6300rpm so I just need something that'll allow it to breath and rev freely! Thanks for the tip... I'll call Ace!

Kre has a new intake that Im told will fit under my Formula hood. I think its called "North Wind". In the tests they did it makes equal or comparable power #'s to a victor intake. I thought it was to be out this month or late last month.

Tazzz2, nice Formula & great stance. What size rims & tires are you running? Mine has the same stance but has 15" rims & looks to be slightly lower.
Sorry not trying to Hi-jack your thread OLDFLM72 |

Formulabruce, it's a solid roller custom grind cam 550/550 240degree duration @.50 and a Jesel rocker system on the top end of the Edelbrock Proformer heads...

Hell ya Bruce at 4k is sweet and surprisingly so it is an "extremely well mannered" driver otherwise.... The 2 1/2" oval Spin Tech exhaust system and the big hooker Super comps setup a really nice little harmonic growl at that 4,000 RPM range that puts a big smile on my face LOL...
My wife likes riding in the car (well below that RPM LOL) and she is a tough one to please with noise and ride.... Her idea of a cool ride is my 68 Eldorado and doing the Italian fighter pilot thing "low and slow" LOL..... |
