Good day friends. I'm babysitting a nice 1967 Le Mans for someone. I noticed that after I was done messing around in it for a while, the dome light stays on with the doors shut. So, I did a search here, and didn't find an answer for my problem. I, should have stayed out of his car, just enjoyed seeing it here. But now, I need to fix it. I did remove the door switches, and they are working fine. They are making contact with the doors, and again this only happened after I was enjoying his car and driving it for a few hours. So, when I removed the drivers door switch, it only has a single wire, not two. Also, the switch which was working fine, is a single terminal switch.
I have noticed that the head light switch has no effect on the dome light at all. And, even though it dims the dash lights it's not doing such a great job. Will a bad head light switch cause the dome light to stay on? Meaning that it will work fine with the head lights, but not the dome light? Thanks, and I've learned a lesson here. Don't mess with what is not mine. Unless, I can hide or cover up any problems which may occur. My best to all. Mike

Sounds like the circuit that goes to the door jamb switches and headlight switch is grounded somewhere. Try disconnecting any inline connectors in that circuit to help isolate the concern.

Try pulling the headlight switch and disc the connector. If that clears the dome light, take a good look at the switch for possible repair. There is a contact on it for grounding the white lead when you turn it fully CCW. Charles |

Thank you for the information. I will proceed and hope to find the problem before he wants to pick up the car. Otherwise, I have to just play like I have no idea what happened.
Nawww, I can't do that. Thanks friends.Mike

When I was a kid and used to break things by accident, I would have just taken the bulb out of the lens and called it a day. Maybe that's why my Dad laughed when he saw me as a father, something about "karma"?

I have the wiring diagrams for the 67 Pontiac from the guide.
