In 1970 Polar White Judge's came from the factory with blue stripes. A few were built with the WT7 option which had a satin black spoiler and the black stripes.

I have seen the Blue stripes being the selected by PMD choice, however the orig owner non wt-7 car at the nationals w/orig paint has the black stripes, the RAIV car inside did as well in addition to several other cars I have seen. Last blue stripe car i have seen was the RAIV car at the GTOAA, seems to me that you see just as many black stripe cars or more than you see blue. Mark

i am aware from a previous post that in 1970 you could chose the stripe delete on the order, but could you change the recommended stripe color on the order form, no matter what color of car?

Polar White, Red gut
(Blue Stripes, cuz they look great on white....IMHO)
I do go along with the others, that the black stripes would go very well on a white car with blacked out spoiler. Although, I'd have no problem with the blues either!

Now how about RamAir decals for '70. I know black and white were the main (only?) ones, but there are repro reds available. Since they were available and they matched the interior (and since early '69 Judge's RamAir decals were color coded to the interior) I used that logic to justify using reds. Was red an option in '70? I wasn't able to find anything in my books.

I bought it just the way you see it from a friend who took it apart for a frame off resto and then his priorities changed selling it to me . One garage to another. I haven't started working on it because my sons are only 6 and 9 and not old enough to do anything to it yet (IMO). I bought them their first dirt bike this X-mas and been teaching them about chokes,gears,fuel shutoffs,checking oil, etc. little steps. I shouldn't have stated "when me and my sons finish it" and said when we do it. I might start on it this summer depending how well they pick up the mechanics of the new dirt bike and test the waters with them. My youngest son "helped" me put the interior in my 69 last year and broke the lower ac duct costing me $100.00 for a replacement one . I really don't mind him breaking it and never showed him dissapointment about it (he loved helping me) but I think he needs to be a little older. They can break what seems like unbreakable toys right now(I think it must be ingrained in them ) I get the biggest kick just watching them wash cars right now and thats enough for now. So for progress on the judge maybe this summer we'll see. I'll keep you posted.

Wasnt there a factory bullentine that stated no stripes would be shipped/honored other than what was PMD approved? Broke it out by body color. I think its been posted here before.

Mike - did you change the color of the stripes on your Judge? In the pictures I took of it when I came up to buy my car they look like red/gold/yellow???

No BJ, those stripes are known as "black" black red yellow. Cameras always pick up color differently? Yours looks great in those stripes!

There was an interesting side bar article in the AUG 09 issue of High Performance Pontiac discussing Pontiacs color selection regarding the 70 JUDGE.

This was in the main article of Jeff L.'s of NJ White/Red 70 RAIII Judge titled "Captain America"

Titled: Why Orbit Orange Became the 70 Judge Feature Color.

Article said: Judge was supposed to be a one year only model, and as a "spoof" of the musclecar wars, "so outlandish that people would have to pay attention to Pontiac".

They talked about how they detached from the CR color of 69 and promoted the JUDGE as a POLAR WHITE color, and the sales teams didnt understand the motivation behind the Judge campaign or the power of the CR color in 69.

Mr. Wangers went on to say in the article:

Bad sales start turned to horrendous, and an emergency meeting was called. It was going to be cancelled, and Pontiac wanted to find a way to save it. The White Judge wasnt getting the attention from the public. They got the paint supplier to do a quick Judge in CR paint trying to save the Judge.

So after they did up this "one off" CR 70 JUDGE prototype, the execs found it "frightening", so the article said in a "never before revealved until now" revelation.

The CR color didnt carry over to the new body style of the 70. Said it was "to big of a statement"

They softened the hue and Orbit Orange "saved" the JUDGE from being cancelled.

Interesting stuff.....ever heard this before?

I guess it is in the camera. Here are a couple of photos I took of your Judge that day. Notice how gold the stripes look in the one of the car in the garage and how they look completely different in the one I took not 5 minutes later where you are putting on the tag before we drove it.

In the photo you posted above I swear I see blue, red and yellow in that shot.

my black with red interior 70 judge came with red ram air decals. i bought the car from the original owner many many years ago with 36k on it. it was the first one i had seen with red ram air decals and he said it definately came that way. i was still surprised and when i got home i went to the dealer and they looked them up in the parts book and sure enough gm part numbers for red. so i ordered a few sets just to have them (there were no reproductions back then that i know of). a few days later the dealer called and said he had them and i could pick them up. i still have them in the gm envelopes.
