Whats is it, just a inline typical unit from the heater core ?

It's actually a heating element that goes in the side of the block in place of the center freeze plug on the drivers side. It has a cord that plugs into it, which I don't have, that also plugs into your standard 110v wall outlet. Pretty simple. My car was driven in Minnesota for the first ten years of it's life so it may have been used quite a bit.

Yes, except mine is made of solid brass and is in the center plug location.

Makes sense, I wasn't sure what that was - block came from Calgary, car was built at Pontiac plant.
