Jeremy, I just did a total over haul to mine. Did this all with it in the car. I had the top pealed back to the rear bow, and only pieces of frame left in car was the rear bow and the rear trim stick. Was able to put in almost virgin folding arms, better middle and front bows, fix my header, and re-used my top. All works like silk now.

Realistically you can do this either way since its already apart. You can piece it back together in the car or put it together out of car ( I think will be harder) and have someone help you put it in the car.

If you took good pic of how it goes together it is not hard put it back together in the car.
Most important thing seem to me was the right hardware, Mine was all Jerry-rigged before, I had another bent frame to work with that had all its original hardware. Thanks to a fellow member.
