Not sure if this is the right place to post or ask this question. I'm looking for someone who has had dealings with Southern Motors In Clarkston Mi Good, bad or in different and if you live close enough possible check a car out for me. Thanx for your time.

I'm about 10 or 15 miles from there and could go by if you want me to. I have never dealt with them personally but have heard good and bad stories - as is probably the case with most used car dealers. Best advice would be to do your homework and have a knowledgeable person look it over good if you can't. What is it as I'm mainly a '68 - '74 kind of guy!

I bought my current 69 GTO from them. I highly recommend you have someone check out the car for you before you buy. I bought my first and only car without seeing it live from them rather than fly up from FL. The car was represented as a frame off vehicle when in fact someone had just sprayed the bottom black to make it look like it had been done. The body mounts were cracked and the throttle would only open the carb about 1/4 of the way.
To their credit they offered to buy the car back but not the tax, title and license fees I had already paid before I put it up on a lift to check out. I elected to be po'd and kept the car. Over the next year I gutted and completely went through the car again. Lesson learned for me on this one.

I would definitely have someone check out the car before you buy. I made the mistake of buying my current 69 from them based on photos only and their description of the car having a frame off restoration. (it did not). Whoever built the car for them only sprayed the bottom of the car black so in the photos it would look like the work had been done. The cracked body mounts and rust on top of the frame were clear signs of the quicky paint job. There were several other issues but the misrepresentation was my greatest frustration. They offered to buy the car back but not cover my tax, title and license fees that were paid before I put the car on a lift to inspect more closely. Needless to say I was less than pleased.
I did keep the car and have gone completely through it including new paint to get it to where it should have been for the price I originally paid. Lesson learnd for me on this one.
Be thorough in your evaluation of their vehicles.

Make sure you have the car inspected by yourself or someone.

I always before and will always going forward inspect the car before I buy. The car was represented as a frame off restoration. When it arrived I should have had a clue when the throttle would not open the carb more than a 1/4 of the way. I thought it was a simple oversight. A few days later I put it on the lift to inspect and found that it had only had the bottom of the car sprayed with black paint to make it look pretty. The body mounts were trashed and the top of the frame and area where the black spray paint did not cover were still rusty. Clearly no frame off restoration. When I called them they stated they must have misunderstood the builder. Somehow I doubt that.
They did offer to buy the car back but not cover my tax, title and license fees that I had paid. Lesson learned on this one. I spent the next year going through the car to make it the way it should have been for the price paid.
Go forward with caution or find a more trustworthy seller.

in my experience buying cars, i have had the best luck with private owners--heck, i have bought cars blind off of ebay and have had little to no problems with representation of the vehicles. when you are buying a car from someone turning a profit as a business, then you are on the right track by asking some tough questions and having someone look at the car, and looking at it yourself. there are good used car shops just as there are bad ones..do your homework and be leery at all steps..and, try not to be an impulse buyer..(sometimes i am) lol.
