Well I went to put my tach harness in and I had forgotten to drill the hole in the firewall (my car originally came with idiot lights). So, I got to practice taking off my drivers side fender so I could drill the hole. Fortunately there was a very informative thread on the subject which had pictures and an explanation of just where to drill. I should take this opportunity to thank all of you who freely share your knowledge and past experiences with others. It is the best resource for dealing with problems. I used a 1 1/8th hole saw to cut the hole. The grommet is used on two other places on the car, the blower motor wire where it comes out of the firewall (non a/c) and the passenger side core support where the forward lamp harness comes back into the engine bay for the right front corner light, so it's a pretty easy part to find.

My car originally came with the plastic steering wheel and I wanted to convert it to a formula wheel so I had to paint the steering column black. I used the same PPG black lacquer I used on the firewall, core support, etc... Interesting that it appears the column was originally painted sandlewood while it was assembled.

I restored the formula wheel collar myself rather than buy one. The first time I painted the collar the texture sagged and I had to strip it off again. The second time around I read and followed the instructions on the paint can and it turned out just fine. Go figure!

Here are some pictures with column in. I have one each of the gear shift sticks so I could go console or non-console. I really like the look of the non-console with the low back seats. However, with sandlewood interior being two different colors that color interior looks good with a console. Decisions, decisions!!!

I bought this steering wheel from a board member (455HOTA) about a year and a half ago. It's been sitting patiently in a box waiting to be used. It's not original, it's been leather wrapped, but it looks real nice and has a good feel to it. The center cap and emblem is a swap meet purchase that cost me $9.00. It was dark brown but I used SEM landau black on it and it looks new.

What are you doing with the old tan steering wheel? Like an idiot I threw the tan one from my grandmothers car out years ago when I swapped to a different wheel. Been looking for another one for a while, now.
