Another picture of Large Father. This is a fairly rare picture as he is still using 'weed burner' headers. Later switched to the new 'zoomies', with this car he cracked NHRAs mph record of 2OO in '64

he he, which one Fueler or 66? What a contrast huh? I still got a lot done today even though I am spending too much time here. Picked up 2 more event sponsors, ran errands, picked up parts, made some deals, made arrangement to get a trans built for the blown AWB Funny Tempest, Got some work on the truck doors, yada yada. It does help to have a lap top with wireless internet. Do not have to be glued to a pc. Plus, the day ain't over yet. Still working outside, got a fire going and the HEMI Pontiac looks pretty under the Christmas lights while I work on the 265 going into the '66 GTO.

How about some more pics of LORI and Marlo. Just because...

Lori Sauders is so cute! I would like to find one just like this.

Jess Tyree at Beeline Dragways 2nd annual AHRA Winternationals, 1965, with his '63 Lemans. Gosh, I wish Beeline was still open but, glad we got Speedworld Dragstrip.

Arnie Beswick vs "Dyno" Don Nicholson 1966. Talk about David vs Goliath! A 3 year old farm built, obsolete Tempest with a 3 year old 'out of date' 421 engine against the very best and all the money and engineering in the world that could be put into a car from FoMoCo! All glass tilt body, overhead cams, etc. This was a best of 3 match race in the south and I think Arnie Won!
What a great photo! This is yet another reason why I like nitro and blowers.

Funny too, how you see things differently as you mature. When I was a little kid watching this, I thought Mike was always right. Now, politics aside, I see him as Archie does, a mooching son in law. Can you imagine your daughter marrying someone and having them both move in with you and eat all your food and do nothing around the house and argue with you about everything? I would have given hima big kick in the behind out the door. Get a job and prove yourself, THEN you can marry my daughter. Just a different perspective. All in the Family covered a multitude of subjects and it was almost always gut hurting funny.

Thank you for the nice words! Just want people to share stuff for all to enjoy. It can be your own stuff, friends, family, kids pics, or just about anything of interest. There are so many possibilities, we have only scratched the surface. Dig out those old pics and share them!

Love the '67 Sedan/Post GTO! I am in the early stages of building one myself to sell. Neat cars. LOVE the slots too! I have a set on a few of my cars. Remember the days when you would not be caught DEAD with factory wheels on your car???! Everyone HAD to have a set of mags or chromes. I still feel the same way though I almost stand alone...

Steve,
This year at the GTO Nat's in Wichita, there were several tech sessions, they were all good, BUT, there was a panel session w/ Craig Hendricksen, Arnie, Jess, Art Peterson, John Clegg, Jim Wangers, and a couple others. Each spoke of their Pontiac Exeriences, and you got to ask questions afterwards....

Man, was that cool!!! There was someone there taping the session, wish I had a copy...

Jess Tyree told about how he got involved w/ Pontiac's. He had been at a race (and won it, I believe) w/ his new Plymouth. This Plymouth was also served as daily transportation for he, and his family, and he was still making payments on it...(I'm not sure of the year 57 or 58)

Well some nicely dressed ya hoo approaches him, and asks him if he'd be interested in racing Pontiacs??? He didn't know what to say... The guy introduced himself, as John DeLorean... Offered him a free car, and parts.....The car came to the local dealer w/ no invoice and special instructions....The guy from the dealer called, TOLD him to come get this no idling thing off his hands...LOL...The best part (to me) Jess got his parts, it was a whole semi trailer load of parts, he had no where to put ALL this stuff, he had to rent space to store all the extra parts......

I wish I could have been at Denver in 1996, Smokey Yunick and John Delorean both spoke at that event...I can only imagine...
Get that 265 shoe horned in and tell us about it

Great pics Mike. Both are significant. The race car is Sonny Rays and ran a 455HO. It being a sedan body, if it was original, that is a single digit production automobile but, have no way to know for sure. This car was featured in the 'High Output' newsletter in the day and I think was the first NHRA legal Pontiac powered Super/Stocker in the 10s.

Here I am, 10 years old at Beeline Dragway in 1971 at the AHRA Winternationals after begging my Dad to take me. I saw this rail with Pontiac power so I HAD to get my picture taken with it! Hmmmmmmmmm, maybe one day, I could own and build something like this.....

If you lived in Phoenix or the southwest, it was always a big deal to make the Winters at Beeline as it was the first big race of the year.

I can't let a vintage photo thread go by without mentioning my favorite F1 car, the Tyrrell P34 six-wheeler. It's a shame these days are gone, back when designers were allowed to be creative, to try entirely new concepts. Now it's all about paint jobs and advertising, whether it's F1, NASCAR, or NHRA.
