Does the top dip stick tube reach above your exhaust? I have an A/C dipstick and without the upper tube, the lower section is between #2 and #4 exhaust ports. My point is that I used a different dipstick and remarked it after the oil settled after an oil change. I was wondering how much longer the dipstick is on your engine that will allow you to shorten it so that the dipstick reads the way that you want. I couldn't shorten mine because it was already too short to begin with without the upper half installed. It's just an idea to give you a piece of mind knowing what the oil level was at any given time.

How would the length of the stick matter? If everything is in the right place tube wise? The oil need to be where it is on the stick even if you have 20 qt pan.

stick does not seem to be long enough to reach oil when propper amount of oil is in the pan. ie the stick needs to be long enough to extend into the pan far enough to register the oil level

Do you have the original windage tray with the inner dipstick tube retained by the windage tray?
If no inner dipstick tube, the dipstick ends up under the crank, instead of in the oil, waiting to be reduced in lenght by the crank counterweights.... |

Try this post:
Dipstick tube You need either the GME157A or GME157B to get an accurate reading. Both go in block tube. (on inside of oil pan)

It also would be nice to know the length of tube coming out of block, measured at underside of tube from block to end?
Got this from "QUICK-SILVER" in another post: But looks like 7 & 5/8ths inch. Checked 7 virgins by hooking measuring tape on head gasket behind tube. From top of block to end of tube got measurements from 2" to 2 1/4". |
