Do you have the original windage tray with the inner dipstick tube retained by the windage tray?
If no inner dipstick tube, the dipstick ends up under the crank, instead of in the oil, waiting to be reduced in lenght by the crank counterweights....

You need either the GME157A or GME157B to get an accurate reading.

Both go in block tube. (on inside of oil pan)

yes it has the windage tray and inner tube

I have seen the angle off with replacement oil tube related parts. The bottom tube goes in at an angle thru the tray and if the angle is too flat the reading will be off.

may be my problem I used a lower tube from py (mine was missing) would a slightly longer dipstick hurt anything (if it will reach oil when 8qts are in pan takes 91/2qt to show up on stick now)
