In my experience, it's better to get rid of the idiots than to try to make something idiot proof. The point of all of this appeared to be to educate and make that happen. I once had an 8:1 engine that would ping on anything less than 93 it was set up so poorly, so not even 8:1 is completly idiot proof.

There's no such thing as idiot proof. You can only make things idiot resistant!

If that is the case, then there really is no point in any "standard rule" in setting up SCR whatsoever. So it's back to looking at all the factors. . .
