Just put a new cable in mine, it was a one piece got it at Napa part # 615-1612 if your trans has the cable out put on the pass side this will be long enough, i routed mine up over the top of the trans out of the way of the shift linkage. 2 piece cables are for a car with cruise control. hope this helps.

My 72 GTO 3spd manual had a 2 piece cable when I bought it new. 3 speed sticks didn't have a switch built into the trans to operate the distributor vacuum advance like the 4speeds did. They used a speed sensor between the 2 spedometer cables to operate the advance.
The lower cable on mine would break every 10,000 miles, after 2 times I went to the dealer and bought a 1970 1 piece unit and never had another break. Bill Nawrot Countryside, IL |
