my opinion on that interior is that it's a PUI replacement from way back. The panels are too "puffy" which is how I'd describe how my PUI from the mid 90's looks compared to originals. It's also had some exhaust work done way back since the pipes are so rusty yet the resonators are missing. I'd lean towards the 152k miles. $20k's a pipe dream on this car. Another example of someone living in the past market land of 2007 Barrett Jackson. There's going to be a whole new generation of guys holding on to the fake dream of what the car's worth according to the speed channel and a copy of a classic car value guide. Give it 10-20 more years when that generation dies off and the kids are looking to dump them. Of course, the interest dies with them. As time marches on, the punks of today could care less about these old gas guzzling dinosaurs. Market got flooded with bondo traps and plain jane cars that everyones looking to dump now that the gold mine's run dry. Hold out and grab something from someone who's realized the reality that this market is NEVER coming back for these cars. How many more years before they're up to 50% ethanol or they're just legislated off the road as the green crazies get ahold of government?

GTO4evr,
I think what you say is true. I do not like what you said but I do think you are correct! I also think the orphan brands,Plymouth, Pontiac, Mercury and Oldsmobile will not be as valuable as the people die that drove them new. I own an Olds 442 convertible and that troubles me about the car's future value to young people.

![]() This wheel opening lip looks suspicious. Could that be fabbed in repair metal, or is that how OEM wheel lip is supposed to look?

Lightfoot,
I agree. The GTO should have been washed and pulled out of the dark carport onto the driveway so quality photos could have been made. The owner's wife said her husband wanted to get it cleaned up before I looked at the car but he did not make the effort. I know he is a busy man seeing sick patients. I do not think he is motived to sell the car; he has not posted an ad. My mechanic told me the car might be for sale so I called the owner and he said yes he would like to sell it.

Lightfoot,
I did not notice the green paint in this photo until you posted it in your reply. It looks lighter than what I think midnight green would look. Does anyone else agree that it looks lighter than midnight green?

I thought the light spots was bare metal showing. Now that you mention it, it could also be green paint, but I would think Midnight green was a darker shade. That looks kind of light green. Like Verdoro or lighter.
If it is green paint (original) then that is a good indicator of a solid quarter panel. Black is the easiest color to reveal flawed body work. That's for sure. I wouldn't pressure him to wash the car unless his price was to your liking, and you were extra serious about it. I would give it time for him to negotiate down some instead of bugging him further to wash the car. If you wait and he does it on his own, that would be a tip-off that he is serious about selling. I agree with the others that said $20K is high for a non 4-speed '69. |

Funny - I saw that green in the post just ahead of yours and was about to comment...my guess is that it will look darker in person...in the photo (under such flawed conditions, on the internet, weathered and against the black it looks lighter - also remember that midnight green is mettalic so sometimes it looks darker and sometimes lighter as the light hits it at different angles). It's not verdoro for sure limelight plus the code is 57 on the trim tag.

I left a note Saturday afternoon with the owner's wife asking him to call me when he finds what original paperwork he has found in his files. As of tonight, I have not heard from him. I will let the forum know if and when he calls me. I want to ask him about the color change and how many miles the car has traveled.

WASP, looked at the pics on photobucket and read all the comments. My opinion is if you get it for less than 10, you're allright. That gets you a driver you can do whatever you want to. Look at it this way, it's more solid as is than Desert King's project car was when they started!
Drive it, enjoy it and cry when gas hits 5.00 a gallon...sigh

Some pretty humorous value estimates on this thread. $15-20K for that? GET REAL!
That's an $8,000 car. And that's only if it has retained it's original drivetrain.

Where has anyone in this thread said it is worth over $15K? The asking price is $20K and everyone, to a person, has agreed that is way too much.

I never seem to learn to avoid the 'what's it worth' threads and posting ebay cars that I think are nice. I always feel foolish when people start pointing out what a real POS the cars are. lol... I've become really hesitant to post pics of my own cars any more here...I know you guys are way too nice to knock them openly but at the same time, I know my cars aren't going to be nearly as nice as some of the ones I've seen picked apart.

The bottom line is the car's worth changes from owner to owner. I've seen good ones go for less than usual because the owner needs money badly. I've seen poor examples get good money because the market was hot. I've seen solid barn find cars needing work go for excellent money because it was rare and desirable. I've seen cars that sit for a year before selling because the owner stuck to his guns dealing with the same two guys trying to bring him down. The fact is its starts changing the minute somethings done to the car. All the tonsil hockey we're playing on value is just conjecture.

Watch the Ebay auctions to get a good idea for what the fix 'er up cars are actually selling for.
The one you're interested seems over priced to me, especially if you want to take it beyond everyday driver condition. I guess it depends how deep your pockets are. |

If I had $20K to spend...and I am a pure Pontiac lover..but it'd be hard for me to not at least take a look at this car for sale right here on the forums...
