just started rebuilding my 67 gto 400 auto , had engine rebuilt and now my pulley will not fit my new harmonic balancer which is a one piece 4 hole balancer which is for a 68 from what im told . i contacted a pontiac guy who sent me a nos balancer which my pulley does not fit either so he is sending me a pulley for that harmonic he sold me saying it is for a 67 . my question is if my engine was broke in on a dino with a 68 harmonic balancer is there any difference other than the pulley set up between the two please help!!!!!

As far as break-in it wouldn't matter what balancer was used. If your new balancer isn't a two piece, then it's not the correct one. 64-67 used the same two-piece balancers. They're available from PY and other suppliers. If you switched to the later timing cover, you'll want to use the one-piece (68 and later) balancer with the correct pulley.

Took the words right out of my mouth, just remember same balancer and timing cover as motor 67 2 piece unit with rubber holding it together then actually a 2 piece pulley set and small spacer. Every 67 balancer ive seen has i believe 6 or 7 - 5/16 bolts holding the pulleys to the main balancer unit. If motor was on a dino, timing probably may be off with wrong balancer.

You are going to be very aggitated if you try switching in pulleys. Send back that 4 bolt balancer, and buy the correct balancer from PY. Your original crank pulley will fit, and all will be good.

Agree with the rest. you just started. Do it right and use the correct balancer. The 68 up will fit, but the cost of the mods is not worth the cost or having the car be incorrect. enjoy the build and do it right... you will not have to ever look back and think twice.
