Believe it or not, I found a suitable hex/threaded stud in the 'help' section of an auto parts store. There were three different lengths in the package. I think they were labled 'water pump bolts'.
I needed one originally for the thermostat housing/alt bracket deal and cut one down, ran a thread chaser over it and it worked fine. When I later broke the ps pump stud, the second one came in handy. Even looks stock with black finish. I think I've still got the third one. Can't remember the thread size on it right now (3/8-16?) but if you can't do any better, I'd gladly send it.
