Drailed......I didn't know that the DM&E was still around. I thought the CP "absorbed" them some time around 2008. I know the CP has terminal in Bensenville, IL.

Yes, you are correct. They are CP now, Im just used to referring to them as DM&E because I work with a bunch of guys out here on the CP in NY that were booming out there for them, other words volunteered to temporarily go out and work for another CP owned line due to man power shortages. I know they are hiring and desperately need help and have a lot of retirees coming in the future. If you live near them I could find out more from some of the guys who are still out there.

opps , I now Up is trying to save on fuel and maintance costs but thats not what they mean by doubleheading a train .. , and the engnieers seat is going to have to he steam cleaned . because first you say it then you do it .. glad to see the conductor servived , that front compartment took a beating , this is one of the only good reasons for no cabooses .


Oh yea, No go on the CN . no reason given . I have talked to Hulcher ( train rerailers) and they seamed interested ( because my clean driving record and mechanical background ) , I know weird hours and on call 24/7, but the pay will make up for it if I get hired .

Cobra thanks for the PSA, I worked for UP back in 06 as a conductor, I would still be on furlow. I work with a guy that was in class 6 mo prior to me and he is still out, but getting hopeful of a recall soon.

On the train for the second time in 3 weeks and sure enough we hit a car that had stalled or something on the tracks. 20 minute delay. Only took the rear facial panel (formerly known as a bumper) off. Doesn't take much. Only found out what happened when a passenger from that location got on the train. All the Sounder did was apologize for the delay. They had said something to the effect that 'something was on the track' earlier.

Made my connection as they held the next train for about 100 or so of us.

I felt nothing other than the train stopping about 300 feet early.

Have patience.It'll come.A whole lot aren't coming back.They definately over-hired.We were screaming about it,but you know the UP.Engineers reserve board is down to 37 and they just created a switchmans "reserve board".

A family member of the truck driver was reportedly quoted as calling him a "hero" because he only needed stitches in his head. I think he needs his head examined for trying to beat the train. Yes, the crossing is well-marked and the gates always work, and no, he was not stuck in traffic. A witness said he drove through a red light and made a left turn right through the gates.

A Southern train derailed in my little town one day in the '70s at the worst location for car traffic. There were 3 crossings on a major state route and all 3 were blocked. It wiped the tiny little depot off the map. Another time (while studying to be a karateman) near one of those locations I saw an old woman get her car stuck on the tracks, but a train arrived 5 minutes later to unstick it for her. Nobody was hurt, exceptin' the car body.
