Convertable car in the local JunkYard here in Ontario, CA at Pick a Part. It's a convertible, top is gone. It has a 4 cylinder engine and a Rochester 4 barrel carb. The rear end is still there, the trans is gone, the ropeshaft is not there. Stick car.
Is there interest in these parts? I have none and left a PM for Wheelspin and was going to PM some others I know that are local, but that I have never met. I'm hoping TomS sees this as I know he has a lot of info about this era and model. The hubcaps are even there, sheet metal OK, trunk floor is gone. The stainless trim is in the back seat. I hid the taillights. Took off the early valve cover and kept the oil cap for my 64 Gp. The valve cover had the oil fill right on top of the "doghouse" or gable end. A couple of weeks ago this car was dropped off there and I seen it then. It is now in the yard. There may be another 61 Tempest there, but it is not in the self serve part of the yard. More info is available if there is any interest. Post here or PM me. Greg Last edited by gregneun; 05-16-2011 at 11:39 AM. Reason: convertible misspelling |

If its a vert, its a 62. No vert in 61. The 4 bbl & manifold is worth at least 300, 500 for complete motor if its a 4 bbl motor. 61 vin starts with 161, 62's start with 162. If you go back, get the numbers off of the front of the block.

Keith,
Thanks for the info. Got the '61 idea from the tail lights, Guide 61, oval shaped units. I will get the numbers off of the block and post them. I did take the head number down, in case it was SD equipment,(WTF do I know?), it wasn't and appears to be run of the mill head #538177. The Rochester is the sqare bore 4 barrel. Thanks again, Greg |

Figured that, same tail lights 61 & 62. If its a true 4 cyl 4 bbl manual trans car, it should have an 87Z on the front of the block. Only major difference in the 2 years is the front end.

I agree with mechanickeith, take some photos. Most importantly, save the damn engine at least.

Not sure that I can save this engine, but here's a pic.
This is in the PAP yard on Milliken Ave in Ontario, CA. It is in the first row of the old cars section. It is located at the North end of the row near a red, early 60's T-bird (still has a nice Holley). They should have a couple more, as I seen them unloading the truck about 6 weeks ago. This is the first of the Tempests that has been placed in the yard. Greg Last edited by gregneun; 05-16-2011 at 11:15 PM. Reason: location info |

Cool! That is a 62. Can tell by the manifold & heater. That carb & manifold is worth come bucks as a complete setup. Also hard to find is the correct air filter housing.

Keith and others,
http://www.pickapartauto.com/ Car is at this yard. I could pull the carb and manifold, or the entire engine, but I have nothing to put the parts on. If you want the carb and intake manifold let me know. I am posting this for others as I do not have a car for these parts. You can call them for prices. There price list does not work right now (website), carbs are 50 bucks manifolds are less. PM me if you want my 20 year old son to assist with pulling manifold, carb and shipping it. He could use the scratch and has more free time than I. Greg |

How is the interior? I need some little parts, and could see driving out there on Saturday.

The interior parts are basically non-existant. There is bunch of loose trim parts and that is about it. The seats are trashed, but you could get the frames from them. The speedo bezel has been removed, but is in the car.

I would like to get that intake and carb. This may be a stretch to trust some one you don't know? Price of part, your labor for removal, shipping? Are you willing to do this?
UPS COD? Do you plan to attend the GTO nationals in Portland, OR? Lots of questions.

I'll check this weekend to see if the parts are still there. Good chance they're gone as I posted this and the Pontiac parts do dissappear from this yard. An engine in a 73 Grand Ville did not last 4 days there.
Posted this for others as I do not have one of these cars. |

It will look better on my car. I have a 62 LeMans that this will go on. I checked all my pms so the shipping plan sounds good to me. Is there anything you need for any of your projects?

So, it is the correct motor for the 4 bbl manifold.

Someone asked for pictures. I went out on Saturday. I must have gotten there before Gregneun, since the manifold was still on the engine. Boy, that's one rough car. Still had all four hubcaps, and in pretty decent shape, but the stuff I need for my interior was long gone.
