Can someone tell me what the number 97904 is by the bottom right side of my Data plate. I know that interior is Black with buckets & it had a black vinyle top, soft ray windshield & electric antenna. Can't figure out the body color. The 2 on the plate by color means black cordova (vinyle) top. The 1 before the 2 by body, I think means special order Non-pontiac color. I think the 97904 down by the lower right may have something to do with the color ----------- Can anybody help -- Or -- Have any ideas.

I believe my car was built(05A 9) very close to yours, Pont. plant. My and your VIN are probably not too many #'s apart. My VIN is 242176P300274. Is that close to yours? I don't expect you to post yours, just curious.

And my tag doesn't have a number similar to yours at the bottom right. It has 14-26.

I can post a pic of mime later for comparison if you'd like.

Mine is 897 after yours -- Can't seem to find anyone that can figure out the body color, including PHS. I would like to think that that leaves me free to paint it any non-Pontiac color I would like but I know life isn't that simple.

This site states that number is a custom color code for Coronado Gold (although you do not have the 867 prefix). Scroll about half-way down to the Paint section.

That's a great color option to have, especially with a black top.

Thanks, I'm now pretty sure that is the color -- It is the only thing that I've been able to find anywhere that matches those numbers on the data plate (after dropping the 867)

Here is a copy of the 1966 Pontiac PPG color chart. It shows Tiger Gold as a "-" (dash) for the data plate paint code. The dash was also used for many other special paint colors. I have seen the "1" on other 1966 data plates, and have heard it was used for Tiger Gold in 1966 along with the dash. So different codes for special paint may have been used by different by Fisher Body Plant locations, not sure. As stated above, the best way is to find hidden location where the original paint still exists and match that if you want to be as original as possible. Jim
