My "Cameo White" car is painted. It looks great. The "Lucerne Blue" shaker is painted. It looks great......My question is.......Is the shaker color and the stripe color supposed to be a spot on match, or is the stripe supposed to be a little darker blue.

AHH... the age old blue shaker color question. This always ends up with the answer being color match the shaker to the stripe. With that said , I don't think original painted shakers are Lucy blue as all the original ones I have seen do not have a metallic paint.

White cars most definately had Lucy Blue shakers. They do NOT match the stripe color. I have attached a copy of a letter from a guy that worked at the Norwood plant and owns a 31k original mile 71 T/A.


Based on the discussion we had on Saturday, I called a friend of mine that has a 71 TA. He is the original owner (31k miles)and the car has never been painted. He told me back in the early 70's he got a stonechip in the hood scoop and used Lucerrne Blue touch up paint and it was a perfect match. It is a white car. He also worked in the Norwood plant in the mid-70's and said that the hood scoops were painted at the factor. He check a paint chip against his hood scoop last night and confirmed the Lucy Blue color of the hood scoop last night.

I hope this clears up the debate!

Why would the plant have a special color in the paint shop to paint a few hood scoops when Lucy Blue is already there. It just doesn't make sense. If the scoops came from the supplier painted I could believe it. It's already been stated that they didn't. They were Lucy Blue on White cars! End of story!

I'm sure your right Bob, you always are. I just never saw one that I thought was Lucy. I still would have the stripe scanned and match the scoop to the stripe so it dosen't look stupid... JMHO

My body man didn't like the contrast. He's said he's gonna put the big electronic eye on it and color match the stripe.

Lucy Blue is the correct color for the shaker. The stripe will not match.

This is why we need someone to reproduce a stripe for white cars that is a true blue rather than seaweed green.

Why is it the when we look thru "old" paint books from back in the day, the ones from the local auto body paint supply store or body shop there is NO mention of any Specific paint code for the 1970-72 Pontiac Trans Am shaker hood scoop??????

im sure the other makes/brands have Special Paint Codes for Two-Tones; be it a stripe on a GSX or the silver panel on the rear of a 68 Shelby and so one......

with out there being a specific code number to prove one way or the other who knows for sure about the Polar/Cameo and Lucy Blue being 100% correct.....has Anybody ever seen a PMD Technical Service Bulltin on this?????...........

I had a 71TA original paint, and had the shaker off a bunch messing with the carb, I recall NO metallic in the paint. It may be lucy minus the metallic, but I side with Craig on this one.
I know a low mileage, original paint car not to far away, Im going to talk to the owner soon.

The shakers were NOT painted with the car is why. They were painted in a regular paint booth room without any electricity, no charged paint. Shaker was in the car till the engine/subframe was installed. ( this from a cousin who worked in Norwood)

I actually stripped the paint off an original shaker within the last year and it was no way Lucy. I have one here that has about three different paint jobs on it, I am going to take it down and see what's under there.

yet i know of an unrestored 12,000 mile 71 that HAS metallic in the blue shaker......strange.......is it a Norwood vs. Van Nuys thing?????

I stripped several layers of paint off of mine and did find Lucy with the metallic in it on the deepest layer. I was showing originally the white fiberglass with black primer and then the lucy blue.

I sanded a spot on one that I have now and the original paint is still under there. Details to come....
