I had some neighborhood kids admiring my 69 Firebird. One of them asked me if it had a hemi in it. I told him of course it does. I don't even try any more.

With kids I don't mind. With adults, I mean either be a car guy or don't. But don't pretend to be something you're not just to talk like you have or had something cool. I'm not saying that to be into old cars you have to be able to recite the specs of a 30-30 Duntov or 041 off the top of your head. But a 40 year old guy telling me about his 67 goat he bought stock "with the tripower and the supercharger" um ...

I seem to remember some country songs and books that bothered me with really inaccurate car stuff too.

I get "Oh, it's the Dukes of Hazzard car!!" all the time. I don't try anymore, either.
Yes, it's orange.

The other thing I can't stand is that almost every car for sale in the classifieds has a "Corvette" motor in it. Like that makes it faster or worth more or something.

I brought some used motor oil to AdvancedAuto last week, and the floor person offered to help me cart it in from the parking lot. Upon seeing my car, he immedietly exclaimed; "Hey, that looks like a 'Back to the Future' car!"
Me:
Clerc: "Did you see that movie, 'Back to the Future? What kind of car was that?"
After I briefly explain what model my Buick is: "does it have a 3.1?"
Me: "Nope. A 3800."
Clerk: "oh, a 3.8."
After a bit of conversation, I discover he is not old enough to have been born when my car was built.

I recently purchased (another) LeSabre T-type ('89). Silver car but the previous owner had installed a (gloss black) replacement front air dam & rear air foil without having them painted to match the car.
So I guess it looks like a Delorean.
