Earlier today, a manic driver passed me in the turning/middle/oncoming lane (with all the loose gravel) and threw rocks up at my window. He was going about 65 in a 40mph zone, crossed a little bit into oncoming traffic and then made a U-turn (illegal in OH) in the intersection. I got out at the light and confronted him. He swore at me and then sped off (and made the U-turn). There is now a giant crack in my windshield (original for 79 f/b).
Police can't do anything. Suggestions to: a) Fix my windshield, since I doubt you can get an original any longer b) Prosecute the sh*t out of this guy, who probably has no insurance anyway and is wanted for child support c) Locate another pristine-condition window (if possible) for my car A friend is the chief of police in my town, but after that, I'll go to the insurance company. Definitely not a good day... |

I suspect replacement glass is readily available for your car, even with the correct date codes if you desire. Check with your insurance agent - depending on the rules in your state it may be a low or even zero deductible claim that won't affect your rates.

i had no problem getting a windshield for my 71 GTO. a local auto glass guy got it for me same day and installed at my location for less than 200 bucks.
hope you have a similar result. i dont think it'll be hard to find glass for yours. |

Not to take anything away from your firebird, but my replacement windshield for my 78 T/A was far superior than the original that was full of small pits and delaminating at the bottom. I never know why I waited so long get it replaced. If yours is an all numbers dated coded matching car, I do feel bad as finding a correct dated one may be challenging. Overall, I am happy with my replacement one though. Best of luck!

Here in Colorado windshields are a way of life. Even side glass is not safe since the storms pick up rocks. My side glass in my 06 is all frosted from one.

Even if your insurance won't pay for it, you can get a new windshield from Auto City Classic in Minnesota for $129.00. Getting the correct date code added is extra. http://www.autocityclassic.com/

If you are looking for genuine Libby Owens Ford (LOF) glass you can still get it from Pilkington they are the Classic Division of Libby Owens Ford and they can even date code it for you too.

Some people are just inconsiderate. I was driving through construction with a gravel temporary road. someone decided it would be a good idea to hammer on the throttle and covered my new truck in gravel. At the time did not think they hit with enough force to do anything. Found out a bit later that i was wrong, my truck is now covered in rock chips all along the rear and side

Yea, the windshield isn't the end of everything. But, he did throw rocks at my car. I haven't had a chance to check for chips in the paint. Wouldn't be surprised if there were a few though.
Got his tag. My friends are doing their "homework" on the matter. |

Yeah, it's what I had extra in the garage at the time. That should have got the message across.....
