Rick,
The rear of the car still sits a little too high for my liking but I'll wait till the end to deal with it. The biggest problem I had with the exhaust was on the passenger side where the pipe came out of the muffler and went over the differential. The pipe literally sat on the fuel line at the corner of the tank. It's still pretty close so I will be swapping out the rubber hoses to something more heat tolerant just to be safe. I was also very unhappy with how low the pipes sat where they came off the manifolds. I wanted them to tuck up close so I had them cut and shortened there. It's a good fit there now. Quote:

looks like it ended up fitting great and has a lot of ground clearance. I'm cutting the head pipes the same way to make them tuck up better. I think they use the same headpipes for several applications and aren't really designed specifically for our cars.

I've been tinkering with the carb for a while now and finally got it dialed in. It's still a little cold blooded but it runs pretty well when at operating temperature. I went to the DMV this morning and got my registration, so now I'm legal. So, after owning the car for three years, I finally took it for a drive today. It still needs the interior done, and I will need to lower it down a bit, but at least I have a driver.

Thanks Dan. I keep waiting to see pics of your car posted on the forum, can't you quit driving it long enough to have a picture taken?

Car looks great Chris - great videos. Is that a flex fan sound I'm hearing as the car approaches the camera?

Yes, I used a flex fan I had and it's pretty loud. I will swap it out this weekend and hopefully I'll be able to hear a little more exhaust and a lot less fan.

Yep - that will make a difference. Car looks great - sort of reminds me of my 74 Fire Coral Bronze Formula 455. Love to have that one back!

I'm back working on the car. I was trolling Craigslist a few months ago and saw an NOS set of wheel opening moldings so I bought them. I installed them today along with the wheel trim rings. The trim pieces on this car really accents this color well. Maybe I should add the roof moldings and decor trim.

The carpet arrived this week along with a bunch of other stuff I ordered. My upholstery guy told me to lay it out in the sun to get rid of the wrinkles before we install it. The second picture shows the under dash filler panel sitting on the carpet. The panel has already been painted the correct dark sandlewood and it's an almost perfect match for the rubber pad in the driver's foot well.

My new rear inner trim panels arrived last week and the console showed up today. I am using the 71 style panels since the 70 style is not available, besides, I think the stitched insert looks nice. It was 70 degrees today so I went ahead and painted them. I'm using the PY interior paint which is a pretty good match. Picture number three shows one of the door panel pockets. The inside of the pocket has been painted and the outside is unpainted, so you can see how close the color is.
As for the console, I'm not sure how to prep this for paint. I used plastic prep on the inner trim panels but the console looks like it may have a vinyl "skin" on it which means maybe I should use vinyl prep on it. Has anyone painted a repop console? I think I read somewhere on the boards that the metal brackets should be removed from the original console and used on the repop, and to use special bolts with with a head that looks the same as the original rivets, does anyone know where to get those? |

That is a nice match.
I just received my new set of these upper and lower rear trim panels for my 71. They are very nice looking pieces.
