I always thought 270 was the service dated carbs for the RA carbs.
Now, it seems they have 273's too? They are not even drilled for autos... Even dated by Rochester is the first time I heard this. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=678449

I'm with you Mike. I have never seen a 273 SR carb. Seen plenty of 270 SR carbs and was of the impression they were used in place of factory 273s. First time for me as well. -Doug

the 7043273 is its own case, Rochestor Products def kept building the 7043273's, & these were avail until depleted and one started seeing the 17054910's like you could order at a dealer & Nunzi used to offer in his catalogs in the late 70's & 1980.
On another front, I've never ever heard of a Service Replacement dated 7041273. Have several dates written down when originals were made, with the last one, the date one will occasionally run across on a late build 4 speed '71 T/A (F body plants had them for RA Formulas & were using them up). So few RA 4spd A-bodys were built at end of the 71 model year, remaining plant inventory of original 1273's was sent to Service Parts. Add to these, originals sent back to Rochestor for factory reman & there was a good supply in the factory parts system. Eventually these were depleted, & at the dealer one had to purchase a SR dated 7041270 (usually 74 dates). This 71 all HO service carb was eventually superseded by a 170# Service replacement, forget it off top of my head. On original 7029273 's, have had my hands on half a dozen, & viewed quite a few more originals bolted on original & restored cars. Have never seen a SR dated one, always the 7029270 service replacements. Used to avoid those like the plague. Very odd!

There is no uniform generic statement one can make about SR carbs that is 100 percent accurate (except one stating the obvious).
GENERALLY, the A/T carb will be used for service, but not always. And the 7029273 was serviced by the 7029270. Jon.

I agree with carbking's sentiment.
We don't know everything that we'd like to know from day 1 forward. Only what we think we know - until proven otherwise. Completely possible 1 or 2 small batches of 9273 SR's could have been made first -before 9270 took over completely. We don't know until we see them. And not enough seen of this one yet. It really needs deeper determination and some eye contact. I'm not disputing this carb in any form - just interested in more info/pics - naturally. And just pointing out what i see in pics : 1. This exact same carb - JLHarper posted some of the exact same pix in a previous thread about a year ago - or maybe less than a year. Was Harper the owner at that time ? Or just an interested party, pondering purchase then ? idunno But maybe Harper can share some more info .... 2. Would like to see a good clean shot of part number stamping area. Can't make out anything much at all really. 3. It has 1970 style choke counterweight/bobber assy. 69 used plastic bobber. The rod that goes from primary to secondary throttle shafts is incorrect for 68-69 manual carbs. Both ends go "In - From the Outside" on those. Where as this one - both go "In From the Inside". Have seen this same thing happen on a few 68-69 Non-RA SR's in past also. Whether those things happened at Rochester or Reman'er - idunno. 4. The main body exterior and throttle plate have been spray canned/colored. The orignal interior coloring looks magnificent however. It looks like the area where an auto trans vacuum port would get retrofitted - has possibly been reworked. Maybe why it was spray colored. 5. I think its worth the price paid - in todays 7029273 market. Even if it is a clone or been massaged - The casting numbers are all good. Not passing complete judgement. Just going by pics so far. But it "appears" it was at minimum some type of SR or R/A - that eventually went through a reman'd process. Then was later somewhat "corrected" in a few ways. Body hole filled - throttle plates drilled. Another thing the new owner will want to verify is the rods and hangers and jets. All those get down-graded when reman'd. Along with Auto trans Vac port and solid primary plates. The stamped area would need tighter investigation before i would declare it legit. Would be first 9273 SR dated unit known to anyone on here, so far. A few additonal pics attached of carb in question- from Harpers posting. And pic of linkage on untouched 9273. IF this carb is not fully completely genuine - just want to say that i have seen clones of much lesser fortitude sell for higher money on many ocassions. |

Did a little checking back - maybe it wasn't Harper who posted up about this carb previously. But somebody did on here, somewhere or another.
Properties file on the pix i have, show them all downloaded on my drive on May 23 2011. Two of the pix on the current ad are identical to the pix i loaded on 5-23-11. Its the same carb - just trying to backtrack it. No biggy |

I have a 1149 dated 9273 carb, it is all orig( bird/TA), never touched. This was the latest date production RA carb I've seen. I'm not aware of any service dated ones.
I once had a #573 carb, that was service dated 1976 |

I would think that any left over production carbs that were not stamped from factory eventually got stamped at the dealer when sold over the counter? I've seen other ram air models that were left over where the dealer neglected to stamp them. Also, the dealer sold bowls separately that didn't receive stamps (NOS). Ask me how I know.

Thought I would add to this as I was researching this question last month. Here is a picture of a service dated 7029273. They are out there.

Before I noticed that this thread was a couple years old, I was going to add that some of these oddballs have been observed dated as late as 1972 - I do not immediately recall any dated later than this - and these are indeed anything but the norm; quite uncommon.
I would generally look at any RA/ST SR carb with skepticism.
