It occasionally happens here. A few yrs back in a western county of this state a trucker chased some guy down off of the interstate to start a fight and got shot dead on the spot by the other driver, who had a 'carry permit'. No charges were filed after the investigation.

But, Brian, 20-25 years ago, you just didn't have the sensibility to know what driving was like. I got my license in '88 but I don't remember how things were vs. now because I didn't have enough experience to know how things were at the time. Today, I a different awareness but it would be unfair to attribute a change just because I developed an awareness.

I think there are way TOO MANY drivers today that have NO CLUE as to what the traffic laws are. 90% must think that they're Vin Diesel in "Fast & Furious"!! As Steve has said speed limits are SPEED LIMITS!! IF you think you have complete control over your vehicle at high speed, unless you're Richard Petty you're WRONG!! I don't know about other states, but in Indiana the left lane is for passing ONLY. I HATE TAILGATERS!!!

Drive'n back in 60's and 70's was great compared to now.
Highways wide open. Little or no traffic. Cruise fast or slow as wanted between cities and towns. 80's stared get'n crowded. 90's got worse. Now its bumper to bumper Spazzoids. I dont play games. Leave 5 mins earlier then need to. Drive at or little over posted limit. Let off gas and coast to red lites. Dont like it? To bad, go around. And they do. Then slam on brakes in backed up LH lane wait'n for lite while i cruise past'm all in RH. Only to start all over at next lite. Unless on Rts 80-94/294 in Il./In. Then its hammer down in passing lane. Only place 1/2 way safe on them.

I never give the finger - I blow kisses instead. I usually brag to my friends how many fingers I received, especially when I'm not in the wrong.

Here in the deep south if you can reach the counter, they'll give you a licsense. They;ll also sell you a gun and everybody knows it so we dont have quite as much road rage as I've seen elsewhere.

Went to LA yesterday.... coming down the south side of the grapevine traffic stopped quick.... The guy in front of me slams on his brakes...so I slam on mine... as I'm on the brakes I'm looking in the rear view mirror to see what the people behind me are doing. The guy behind me braked a little late IMO... and the guy behind him braked real late and started locking up... I saw that he wasn't slowing down fast enough so I gassed it and pulled onto the shoulder... We were in the fast lane.... so I was lucky there was a shoulder. The guy behind me went onto the shoulder and almost hit the car that I was behind... and the guy that locked them up end up where I was originally.... I feel that if I was one of these braindead poke along drivers that I get pissed off at... I would probably be in the hospital right now......

Its not just overcrowded , there is no real dicernable rush hour anymore from what I can tell. I work in the road repair and improvement business and the last 15 years I've seen roads go from busy from 7AM to 9AM then 3PM to5PM to pretty much steady congestion all day. I believe it has alot to do with with retired people going out after the old rush hour and more people traveling due to two income families. It seems everyone has a car that is 17 in this state.People complain about gas prices but I remember my grandfather walking to work and my dad insisted on buying a house less than two miles from his job. Now everyone around doesn't think twice about driving twenty to sixty minutes just to go to work.
Just the way it is now. George |

We still have a serious rush hour here.
The last few years of the local TV sports coverage when Richard Petty was still driving always started like this: "Richard Petty was involved in this one..." The next week you'd hear, "Richard Petty was involved in this one...." I think I see a common denominator. |
