would you believe that this past weekend I had some pre-teen (or maybe 13yo) kids try to scold me for not having a helmet on!?!
LOL stupid ignorant kids apparently didn't know that these retarded laws don't apply to people over 18 years of age... (at least that 's the case around here)

I remember having the bottlerocket wars. We would sit at the end of the street and a few other friends would be down the other end a few yards. We would lay them on the ground and light them. I also remember if you worn a hole in your pant in the knee area then your mom would put a patch on it and you could still wear them favorite pair of pants. It was still cool to wear a patch on your pants back then.

That has to be the nicest treehouse I have ever seen.
Did you build that one yourself? I could retire in that thing.

My bike never had a chain guard.

A boy can't build a bike with a chain guard on it.
Johnny Dombrowski was the funniest kid we knew. We were jumping concrete blocks and he grabbed his sister's bike and told us to stack 6 blocks up. He made it and broke the bike's frame at the same time. It didn't look like fun as he staggered home. |

I remember my semi banana seat Sears Free Spirit bike w/o a chain guard. One time my pant leg took the chain off on a pretty good decent so I rode up a driveway and laid it down. It took nearly two lawns to stop. The good ole days...

I used to use a pedal car in a "demolition derby" with the kid next door who also had one. Later when I had a "Big Wheel", I rigged up a hand brake out of a piece of wood that I could lock against one of the rear wheels so I could "spin out".Wore the wheel in half on the front and the one in the back.
I hardly ever even see kids riding tricycles or bicycles down the street anymore.

How about the chopper look? Where you cut the fork tubes off of one bike and drive them onto another to create the extended front end!! Good Times!!!

I was the wheelie champ on my street with my Huffy Sting Ray bike, banna seat and sissy bar, cheeter slick.
pulled a wheelie one time and the front wheel came off,I passed by it,forkes hit the ground...I flipped. Also went to pull another wheelie and the goose neck on the handle bars broke off.....not funny (

Yes it was. You just didn't see the other guys laughing. I didn't need a sissy bar . I did my wheelies on a full size 26" bike. I do have to admit, I wanted a Sting Ray with the cheater slick. In fact, last week I looked into buying one of these from a guy, but it was sold before I contacted him. It's a Schwinn Mini-Twinn. Only 400 were made, all in 1968. |

That is cool, I never seen one. My first bike that my grandpa gave me was a old AMF with the small saddle and solid rubber tires. You could feel every atom and molecule you ran over. I wish I knew what happened to that bike.

Made our own gun powder out of charcoal/sulfur/salt peter for home made mortar.
Was a 4"W x 3'L iron pipe w/a cap on one end. Used primer cord for fuse. Angled/wedged under a 3'H x 4'L boulder w/huge rocks hold'n it in place. Did the fork deal on Huffy 5spd stingray(or whatever they'r version was). Lit'l longer then Schwinn's. Had a 1/2 mile long very hilly(some so steep couldnt stop) back woods bike path w/a creek run'n thru for 10spd races. If couldnt slow down at bttm of one curve you'd end up in 3'-4' water. Also was a 40'H x 100'L RR trestle thru there we'd cross to get to other side of town instead of round the block. Saved 2-3 miles. Have to watch for trains 1st... BB fights. Dirt clod fights. Bottle rocket and Roman Candle fire fights lol. Try to make plastic model cars go down the road with Estes rocket engines. Never did work well lol. Camp'n out all nite and raid gardens for snacks. Everyone had one along with fruit trees, grapes, rasberriers, strawberries, etc. Fish all day long. Had our own worm patch. Ice hockey till we couldnt stand. Tree fort made with every scrape of wood we could find. Was 20' up in an old Oak. Only way to get up/down was a knot'd rope. Unless you had an extension latter to reach limb. HO slot cars and trains. My drag strip was 25' long. Still have whats left of sets stored away since the 80's. Only other things still have are 2-3 unstarted model rockets and one car(maybe get to'm aftr the 67-68 FB's are done). Nephews distroyed my model collection aftr moved away frm home. Lit'l older we had a 1/8th mile oval dirt track behind my house for go-carts and mini bikes. Then beater cars & trks.
