It was 1973. And I agree. Sadly Ernest Borgnine was often typecast into bumbling fool rolls. His performance as the evil rail boss "Shack" in
"Emperor of the North" is one of his finest works in my opinion..

I will forever remember him as the baddest, maddest cop in Convoy. May he rest in peace!

Convoy and Smokey and the Bandit were the 2 movies responsible for my fascination with american cars and trucks (read; MACKs)
As as 10 yo I started out as a Mack truck geek which gradually evolved into being obsessed with everything American with 4 or more wheels.

(Someway I still wish for a huge storage facility and a Truckerdrivers license so I could park all my Pontiacs and a few early/mid seventies Mack Trucks too).

Ernest Borgnine was also a Shriner so he really did care about children besides being a truly great actor.
