The short Mr Gasket keys are for the cam gear only, that what I used to degree in my Crower cam. In my case and most Crowers from what i've read here I needed the 2 degree key to advance 4 degrees.

Any chance your valve cover may be leaking at the bolt above #2&4? Just a thought.
