As a new car salesman, my Dad didn't own many cars as he was always provided with a new car demonstrator.

Of all the demo cars he had, his Lucerne Blue 1970 T/A 4Spd (the very first T/A to hit my home town) was my favorite.

But to answer the actual question "What was your favorite car that your dad owned?" the answer is...

This car that I restored in the mid 90's (after being parked for 30 years) so that I could see my Dad drive it again!!!





Dad bought it in 1958 - it was the "perfect" family car for a family of 10. It's a 1949 Cadillac Series 75 Limo...

'63 Catalina, built as a 421 SD but converted over the counter to an HO car; aluminum package, Bobcat paint scheme.

Parts were taken off this car to repair one of the other Royal racers and this one was scrapped.

I could tell you more about the cars that I didn't like but that's not what this thread is about. My dad was a salesman and drove lots of miles in the 50's and 60's and cars didn't last more than 75-100K miles before they were unreliable. In retrospect he bought a 55 DeSoto hemi with a 3 speed manual. Growing up during the depression he was very frugal and it carried through in many aspects of his life. One of the things that he heard was to shift into the highest gear as soon as possible for increased mileage. Sooo he would have it in third gear by 20 MPH. Not a thrilling ride but it would be neat to have car now with the Firedome V8.

Oh... my favorite car that my Dad owned. The first car I can remember, he had a new black and white 1956 Chevy Nomad. My Mom however, had the car. A 1968 Firebird 400[I believe it was called?], that was optioned beyond sence. It was dark green with a tan convertable, 400/400 turbo, all the powers and AC.

My dad bought a red '61 Catalina when I was about six years old. Later on I learned to drive in that car, and took it to the prom. My first car was also a red '61 Catalina, and I've owned red 1961 Pontiacs ever since.

My dad had a midnight blue 1965 Impala SS 327 and that car was awesome, what a boat. I always felt safe in that car when I was a kid but of course now as a adult I noticed how the drums were feed by a single reservoir master cylinder hmmmm maybe not that safe after all. Actually it was kind of funny my mom drove us home from school and it was a little icy on the roads. Well we come to a stop sign and my mom pushes on the brakes and the beast just keeps on going and sliding on the ice. Well there is a mailman in his little jeep right across the way and all you could see was his eyes getting bigger as this barge is heading for his little jeep. Well we barely tap him but that sends him right into a ditch. Not a scratch on the Impala but the poor mail truck was smashed and the driver probably went to get smashed later to calm his nerves. 57 2dr HT Star Chief and the 64 4dr HT Star Chief. But seeing the 64 was the first car I ever drove, it was my favorite. Those two cars are what got me hooked on Pontiacs, and the reason a 66 GTO was the first car I owned.

my dad was a big jag man, my favorite was his black 5.3ltr daimler double six coupe, i had just got my licence so i got to drive it every sunday when i took him to the pub.
his was exactly the same as this one

My Dad wasn't really a car guy. It was just transportation to him....so, I would have to say his 3 on the tree '58 Ford Country Sedan Wagon. It had a hole in the rear floorboard and we kids would drop paper through it and watch it fly up into the air behind the car.
What a blast.
Funny story about it...Years after he sold it, we were at a local park and my Dad spotted the car. He was over looking at it when the new owner walked up. My Dad says, "That used to be my car. Yeah...sometimes I wish I still had it." The guy looks at my Dad and without missing a beat says in perfect deadpan fashion, "Yeah...Sometimes I wish you still had it too."
