My dad always bought new trucks but never cars,except for one time in 1964. He bought a new 64 grand prix 389 tri power 4 spd posi rear. Only car he ever bought new to this day and he is 75 now. I remember the car well,I remember watching as a little boy he and his buddy replacing the engine with a junkyard 389 4 barrel. He kept the tripower but i recall the big factory air cleaner rotting away to nothing laying in the woods. The NY and PA winters were hard on the grand prix and the battery that had flipped over in the trunk at one point didn't help. It took its final trip in about 75-76 to the junk yard! When I got alittle older dad would tell me if he ever found another 64 4sp grand prix he'd be interested in buying one. Through the years I located a few 64's and I call him and he would say is it a 4sp? and when I'd say no he'd say not interested. Then one day(early90's) in the back of High Performance Pontiac I found an add for a 64 grand prix 389 4bbl 4sp posi in upstate NY,it was an unrestored very solid cali car,had some surface but no holes,interior was shot but all there,original drivetrain,8 bolt wheels,undercarrage absolutely perfect! When I called my dad I could tell he was excited,we went and looked at it that weekend and he picked it up the next! He restored the car himself and put the tripower on it that he still had laying around.It was good to see him driving that car around again, so happens it was the same color as his old car. He doesn't drive it much anymore,he even talked about selling it last year and I told him if it goes up for sale it won't be going far!

Dad and Mom always traded every three to four years when I was at home. Starting with their first new car, to the bitter end, with my favorite car in bold:

1955 Ford Fairlane 4 door (mom), Red w/ red guts, no idea about the powertrain
1955 Buick Special 4 door (dad), Green with green/white guts IIRC, again, no idea about the powertrain
1959 Ford Ford Galaxie 4 door (mom), Green with green guts IIRC, powertrain?
1959 Buick Invicta 4 door (dad), Red with 3-tone guts, powertrain?
1963 Grand Prix (mom), first and only car they ever bought with bucket seats! 389 4V, auto, Maroon with maroon guts. "Cold side" muffler rotted out like crazy!
1964 Chevy Impala 4 door sedan (dad), blue with blue guts 283 2V/Powerglide. Dad's dad (my grandpa) loved it so much that my dad bought him a duplicate. BUT - they would get them mixed up so dad had his top sprayed white to differentiate them. First car I ever drove, sitting on Dad's lap of course, and I still remember the "COLD" light on the dash!. Great cars that couldn't be killed. My grandpa kept his until he passed away in the late 80's.

Baja Gold w/ Sandlewood cordova and guts, he special ordered that car to tow our ski boat with. I actually snuck it out to Houston International one Saturday (when they were out of town) and ran a 15.5x @ over 90 MPH!
1971 Caddy coupe deville (mom), 472/400, f-ugly dark brown w/ white top and guts
1972 Grand Ville 4 door hdtp, 455/400, Adriatic Blue w/ white cordova and blue cloth guts, also special ordered with full gauges, towing package and Safe-T-Track diff, but Dad forgot to order the dual exhausts, darnit. Still a fun car to drive! My 2nd favorite car.
1974 Caddy sedan de ville (mom), 472/400 f-ugly green with green guts
1974 Caddy sedan de ville (dad), 472/400, f-ugly brownish gold with brown guts
1977 Caddy coupe de ville (mom), 425/400, f-ugly dark turquoise with navy guts
1977 Caddy sedan de ville (dad), 425/400, light blue with light blue vinyl top and blue leather. Another special ordered car - because Dad was PLANNING on buying an Airstream trailer to haul behind it upon his retirement (that never happened). Towing package with 3.08 gears and a posi. FAST for it's day.
1982 Caddy sedan de ville (mom), HT4100/2004R, Lt. blue with blue leather, the powertrain says it all. 125 blazing HP pushing nearly 5000 pounds!
1982 Olds Toronado (dad), 307/325OD, Maroon with maroon cloth guts. An absolutely unreliable POS turd of a car.
1985 Caddy sedan de ville (mom), HT4100/4T60, f-ugly brown-gold w/ gold leather. Another noisy, tire eating, HT4100, polished turd.
1991 Caddy sedan de ville (Dad), HT4900/4T60E, light blue with navy leather. Except for Dad's trailer tow equipped '77, probably their nicest caddy. The 200HP 4900 wailed pretty good, and it was dead-nuts reliable.
1996 Caddy sedan de ville, (shared car, Mom quit driving when Dad retired), 280HP Northstar/4T80E. Gold with tan leather. Another fine example of caddy engineering at it's best. What an absolute pile!

Well besides all the pontiacs Dad's owned, my favorite would have to be his 03 Ford Lightning. I don't remember what all he did to it... traction bars, cold air intake, polished aluminum throttle body, some valve body mods in the transmission, and a different boost pulley on the supercharger I think. About 375hp at the rear wheels. Mom accidentally did a burnout and all the neighbors got mad at dad. I miss that truck.... too bad they were all automatics. On the other hand, Mustang guys didn't like pulling up next to it at a stoplight...

My Dad had one of these in 3/4 ton with a HOT 'vette 327 in it. He gave it to me as my first car and then took it away after I thrashed it racing it all the time. It didn't have the chrome trim on the cab and my cab was white. When he bought the truck from the original owner it looked like this. Totally stock with the original 283. He put some chrome wagon wheels on it and the exhaust ended and dumped right at the back of the cab with Thrush mufflers. he never swapped out the stock compound low 4spd so I drag raced with 2-4. The resonance in the cab was something to remember! lol I have many fond memories of cruising Clearwater Ave. and drag races in Columbia Park in the summer...

1967 2+2 - special ordered - 428/360 - 4 speed - 3.73 posi - hood tach - manual steering and brakes - 1st car I ever rode in......I was a couple of days old... he traded in a '64 Tri power 4 speed Grand prix in on it before I was born.

1981 Trans Am - they bought new

1959 Impala - ended up trading my '70 Monte Carlo to him straight across

Another car that my dad had, which I thought was cool at the time was a brand new 53 Pontiac 2 tone green with a dark green tinted windshield. Quite new at the time at least for me. My dad picked me up at school in that car which I liked because I always walked. After I was out of the house he bought a 69 Caprice w/396. That was a sharp car with all the do-dads.

My dad worked as an accountant for a company and part of his job was to lease the company cars. They must have had a deal going with the local Ford-Mercury dealer because they always had Fords. My dad would lease Mercury Montego's for the sales staff and Mercury Marquis for the executives. As I recall, if you lease 24 cars, you got a 25th at no charge, so dad always took the free car for himself and got a Mercury Monterey. This was his 1970 Monterey, and it was my favorite. It had a 429 in it.

Probably, my dad took a crapload of slide pictures when we were kids. My sister has them all and she gave me a thumb drive with all the pictures on it, so I assume she had them digitized somehow.

I'm late replying to this, as my dad never owned anything classified as cool in my lifetime. Before he met my mom, he did have a forty-something Indian motorcycle.
With seven kids, it was primarily station wagons from the time I was 4 years old.

The wagon with most horsepower happened to be the car I took my driver's license test in: a 1970 Ford Country Squire w/390 4bbl.

My dad bought a new car every two years and sometimes every year. He drove Fords until 1958, when we bought our first Pontiac, a red & white Chieftan four-door that I took my driver's test in. There was a black '64 Bonneville with 8-lug aluminum wheels which was my favorite Pontiac that he owned.

He didn't buy many station wagons, but I've pictured my two favorites, a '50 Ford two-door woody wagon and a white '93 Buick Roadmaster wagon which I bought from him with 43,000 miles and just sold it this week with 202,000 miles on it. It was hard to see that wagon go out of the driveway, but I bought a nice black '95 Roadmaster with only 79,000 miles that will last a long time.

Many of you that have loved your Pontiac Wagons need to latch onto a '91-'96 Roadmaster ('92-'93 had TBI 350 SBC and '94-'96 had LT1 350 SBC). They are fantastic cars rated to tow 5,000 lb. with the factory tow pkg. and EPA-rated 16 mpg city and 25 mpg highway---with a 350 SBC engine!

I got to set in one of these years ago. A friend of my Dad's owned it. It was unrestored but in good shape. It was a 4dr the same color as this one. Just like this but in unrestored condition.

My Gpa had a 64 galaxie that was a greenish blue color with a white top (KEWL COLOR). Had white walls and I would take off the hub caps and drive it around. After about a week he would say your Grandmother thinks the car would look better with them on. I would always get a hair cut on Grma's birthday and go see her. They were the best. Those were cool cars.
