My question would be why !!!!
If you have good pressure this has never be a problem in my experience.
This may be a good procedure but I do not think it is really necessary under 1600 hp.

1600HP was the pump-gas goal.

What brand is the crankshaft? It seems like nobody check the clearance or maybe the bearing crush is minimal and the elongated cut in the saddle were leaking out in the side. But either way it seems like you are rebuilding your brand new proffesionally built engine. Like I said you are a better person than most of us. Goodluck at least you caught all these issues before making some power on this engine.

The crankshaft is a Crower Billet.

The longer this thread goes, the more it makes me sick and the more curious I am to see how its resolved. I hope you get this thing finally straightened out. As mentioned before, I commend you for not going "postal" on someone over this build, your a better man than I! I don't even want to think the financial investment you have in the build to this point.

Ed, I see no benefit in doing the mod on the crank bearing saddles that you posted.

The crank and bearings get lots of oil (from the normal oil hole in the bearing) in that
area of the crank travel/bearing shell geometry See attached picture (pdf).

The mod you show would add oil in the 12:00 to 2:00 area of the crank/oil feed diagram. No reason to add more oil as there is already plenty of oil there. What I believe has happened is that you have reduced the bearing shell support by a massive amount.

Great....Any idea why the oil groove in the bearing would have had work done to it?

When I saw this I wondered -- would all that area behind the bearing shell -- at 60 to 80 psi of oil pressure cause enough push to load the bearing on the crank ????

Extra oil storage mod

Hope everything works out for you. The build sounded like it was going to be amazing but has quickly turned to chit

I read through this whole thread start to finish in one sitting, about 2-3 weeks ago.
Just been keeping tabs since ... (too overwhelmed to make a post)

Since it keeps getting worse - no point in waiting for it to get better before posting.

Ed, back somewhere in the middle of this thread, you made mention of having requested the initial block to have the larger cam bores. But it didn't materialize.
Maybe that is coming into scope now.

Were you billed for the modification to the main journal saddles on this block (oil grooves) ? Or does it show on the "build sheet" ?
Was it ever discussed or advised ?

I ask because, maybe this mod was pre-existing.

Could be the reason this block was "chosen" was due to it being clearance sale priced.
[but undisclosed to your purchasing agent] - (as in someone was unloading this block - and he bought it unaware)

Pure Speculation - but with the issues presented all the way through re-inspection - nothing is off limits at this point. jmho

On the header issue - maybe the best thing would be to slightly modify / clearance a section of the valve cover(s).

The hack work on the heads is undescribable.
Just the fact they were drilled wrong from the start is bad enough craftmanship.
Not discovering it until AFTER all the porting machining flowing was complete - turned into EPIC Fail and carnage.

The maiden voyage of Ram V Aluminum heads could have been a Landmark Launching with this build.
Instead its more like the Titanic.

Helluva mess here Lynn.
Don't see how 500+ emails really caused all these mistakes or releases liability for them ?
