a couple of entry level 71's for sale. you can choose your color and transmission. both cars look to be missing their original 455 H.O. engines.

I need some help on the correct placement of the four studded head bolts used on 455HO - 7F6 heads. There are two long and two short studded bolts. I believe that one of the long bolts goes on the front drivers corners and is used for the battery ground. I think the two short ones go on the drivers side in the second and fourth bolt positions (there are five bolts on the drivers side) and are used to hold the heat shields. I cannot even fathom a guess on the remaining long studded bolt, but based on an hour searching the forums here think it might be used on the passenger side for the rear A/C bracket, but this is a WAG and I don't know what hole position if this guess is correct. I have searched here, in Rocky's and Jim Hand's books, and in the service manual to no avail.
I appreciate the help.

You are correct. The pass side studded bolt is where the a/c support bracket mounts.

Thanks Lloyd - always good to see you surface and even more so with helpful answers. A picture is worth at least a thousand words and the ones you attached will prove useful for more than this enquiry. I have printed and saved them for future reference.
Thanks again, Bob |

Thanks for the pics Lloyd. I have that lower AC bracket for my car and need the studded head bolt to mount it. So - is it the longer bolt and any idea on where I can get one?
TIA! BJ

I have an original long studded bolt that came with my engine that I did not use. However, the long studded bolts that came with head bolt set I bought from ARP were about 1/2" longer - see picture below. The heads are now installed on my '72 455HO and the longer ARP bolts worked fine. Verfiy what what length bolt will work for you and I will happily mail you one of my originals (if it will work) in return for an IOU. Send me a PM with the length, contact info and mailing address. Regards, Bob ps - nut and washer not included.

The quest continues...
Ok, next question, this time regarding the studded intake bolts. This is in regard only to the studded bolts other than the four used to hold down the exhaust crossover. How many studded bolts does the intake require on an A/C equipped car? I can identify three with a minimal amount work including: 1) 2 on passenger side front two holes for the A/C bracket 2) 1 on drivers side second hole from the front for the alternator bracket My confusion arises from the fact that most suppliers are selling these bolts in sets of four. Is there a fourth required and where does it go on the intake? Thanks as always, Bob |

1970 used one on the driver side rear for throttle bracket I believe.
(maybe 1971 also)

The bolt I have is 3-9/16" - see picture. The head is 3/4' According to OPH these are out of a D-Port Pontiac. It might still work, just let me know.
