anyone know what the laws are(or will be ) about 30 round banana clips for SKS's?

Nobody knows for sure per Fed. in future. CDNN Sports should still have them. Individual states have different ideas.

Episcopal Church says nobody should have them or assault rifles either.

NH has some pretty liberal, pardon the phrase gun laws. I doubt anything will change on capacity in NH anytime soon. BHO's habit of doing stuff by executive order might change that.

Actually Assault "rifles" are legally defined by the DOJ as being fully automatic/select fire and there is no pending legislation about them. They already require a BATFE transfer, $200 tax and waiting period.

Assault "weapons" is a political term that legislators are using to make lesser firearms sound scarier than they are so as to propose gun controls that they're attempting now.

I bought an SKS a few yrs ago at a pawn shop with one of those larger magazines. I took it out and bought a standard 10 round to put in it's place.

Poncho V8 - that may be the case, but if you purchase weapons such as AK with 30 Rnd clip the federal Govt. requires that a separate form be filled out as they are classified as an assault style weapon. They do not have to be fully automatic to require this documentation. This is in addition to the background check.

Purchasing just the magazine is totally different.

I never knew buying an AK/AR with included 30 round mag required additional paperwork, but I know the SKS from that shop had one included and there was no extra paperwork on my end. I didn't see any on their end. I just filled out the normal sheet with white and yellow copy and they entered it in the computer terminal. Are you sure it's federal and not state?

Yeah, assault style and assault weapon are exchangeable. Assault rifle is specifically full auto capability. Through ignorance and sometimes intentionally the activists will slip it in place for assault weapon to state how dangerous an assault rifle is and that limiting this or that on assault "weapons" will fix that dangerous condition. We gotta keep them in check.

Ahem...the correct term is "magazine". A "clip" is something you use to load a fixed magazine, like a stripper clip for an SKS, or an en-bloc type such as the M1 Garand.

As for the availability of 30 round detachable magazines for the SKS, they are currently availble but require slight modifications to the rifle to fit. It's all "bolt on" so there is no permanent mods needed to the rifle. Check your state laws regarding legality, as the sale of any magazine larger than 20 rounds in Maryland (for instance) is illegal.

Not sure where you got this information, as it isn't part of the 1994 Brady bill that sunsetted in 2004, nor is there any "seperate" form other than the 4473 I am aware of that needs to be filled out for the feds when purchasing a semi-auto rifle.

I have never had to fill out any additional paperwork for my M4 with 30 rd mag. Same paperwork I did to get my grandsons Cricket single shot .22...

About six weeks ago I purchased a Zastava Pap M 92 pistol that came with two 30 round mags and two more extra.

It's a sweet AK 47 pistol from Serbia I believe and has great reviews. The price has sky rocketed.

That stuff aside, I did not have to fill out any additional paper work.
Just the standard back ground check.
