Geeteeoguy is right in that aluminum drums were found on the 80's rwd Cutlass and Regal. These drums must have been an option because most of the cars came with the standard steel drums. The only ones I found were from the early to mid 80's and they have the metric bolt holes, not the earlier smaller sae holes. My 1981 Cutlass was sae and my 1985 Cutlass was metric on the lugs. They are 4 3/4 and the hub thickness is a good 1/4 inch, and the neat thing is that they are finned just like our GTO rear steel drums are. The part number is cast inside the drum and is 1255496 and the 'do not exceed' measurement is in metric.

AZgoatguy,
Thanks for the info. Do you know where I can find a set? Thanks, Tom |

Good luck finding a set in a wrecking yard now. Everyone knew about those aluminum drums 15 years ago, you could find them then. If you find a set, you can use a rat tail file to enlarge the hole so it fits on the older rear ends.

Hey Tom,
I think I have an extra pair buried somewhere. Will dig them out and check them over tomorrow and get back with you. Gary in Tucson |

Last set of aluminum drums I took off came off a mid '80's Chevy Caprice. That was about 2 yrs ago. The rest of the ones I have I took off 71 and 72 cutlasses. I acquired those in the late seventies. The ones off the caprice the center hole was a little tight. The older ones slipped right on. My cars are F bodies.
