Brad,
Bud(an old friend of mine) was a mechanic at IMS from the late 40s to the early 80s. He could tell you stories about Foyt most people wouldn't believe(puncturing a tire with a screwdriver is one). Bud liked A.J., but thought his behavior was beyond the pale. He also said that Bobby Unser got his ass kicked by a fan when Unser tried to start a fight because he(Unser) didn't like what the fan had to say about Unser's driving. I can see that happening to "Smoke".
