If she averages 25th out a field of 43, i'd say thats pretty good for a female in a mans sport.

I personally know at least 1 female who strongly disagrees... and would probably snatch your nuts out and use them for dice for suggesting it.

I disagree, she has some of the best equipment, and there are probablly only 30-35 cars out there that are actually trying to run the whole race, there are usually 2-8 start and park drivers who will only run for 10-40 laps and park it in the garage.

If anyone has seen "Days of Thunder" Cole Trickle was like Wanica in some ways, came from an open wheeled car, had no idea of what physics made the stock car go around the track and how to manage tires, brakes, etc.
She also never worked on a car and never will, just shows up to drive the car and make commercials. Her car owner got wrecked during the Daytona 500 and they showed him in the garage working on his car trying to get the car ready to return to the race. I've also seen Tony change tires in the pits at dirt races. I've also seen "Super Tex" A.J.Foyt working on his own car in 1982 (Indy 500) towards the end of his driving career working on his car in the pits. Wanica would be lost trying to do anything on the car. If you have no idea of how a car works or even how to do minor things on it you'll probably have no idea of how to manage the cars resources, IMO.

While watching that during the race: Anyone else think that it just might of been Tony looking good for sponsors on in-car camera, or was it just a co-winky dink? No matter, IMO Tonys obviously blessed with a ton of racing talent & experience. DaniCant - not so much.

The Daytona Beach course (yes, they ran part of the race on the beach) in 1949 - Ethel Mobley finished 11th, Sara Christian finished 18th and Lois Smith finished 20th. As already noted - Wanica is running the best equipment money can buy and has a top notch crew. This is her 4th season in NASCAR, she ran the full Nationwide series last year and 10 Cup races to help prepare her for this ride. The last rookie to run the full season was Joey Logano. Joey was 18 years old at the start of the season and as a rookie won 1 race, had 3 top 5's and 7 top 10's. Joey had a partial year of NASCAR experience as prior to getting his full time Cup ride - because of his age he wasn't allowed to drive until he turned 18 in May of the previous year. He ran 3 Cup races, 18 Nationwide races and 1 Truck race for a total of 22 races prior to his rookie season. Based on the huge advantage of actual NASCAR racing experience Wanica has - she should be able to do much better than Joey. But that ain't happening. |
