Just to throw this out there from what I have read the repo aluminum intakes are design from the 72 orginal but have a shorter plenum like the orginal 72s. The 69-71 orignal aluminum and
irons have a lttle more plenum depth.

The reason I said it is to avoid trial and error. As this is the street section and one persons idea of streetable can be diff from the next guy.You have not said what your first gear ratio will be on the ST-10.They make them from 2.43 to 3.42.With too much cam you will loose a lot of bottem end with the 400 and will need to slip the clutch to get it away from a stop.I have done few 400s but a lot of 421s and over the years I have spent stupid money trying to get the sweet spot for performance and drivablilty with many cam changes, rear gear changes and even first gear ratio in the trans changes. With my 62 GP and a 389 crower cam tripower engine I now have a 2.68 in the back with a 3.42 first gear ST-10.My 63 421 Lemans has a 3.90 in the back with a 2.67 first gear TKO600 and my 69 RA III Judge has a 3.55 in the back with a 2.52 first gear Muncie.Good luck with your project.Tom

I ended-up buying a genuine 71 HO aluminum manifold from a PY member. No regrets. |

I have an HO repro intake from our host as well. Yes, they do look like the photos posted but I have iron intakes from 68, 69 and 70 and frankly they don't look much better. I have reworked the repro HO intake by grinding and adding fuel resistent epoxy where needed. It looks much better now and aligns quite well with the gaskets.
Also, it fit perfectly on the new 455/KRE heads, with the bolt holes aligning nicely as well. I cannot say that for ANY Edelbrock intake I have bought in the past 25 years and have become accustomed to spending an extra $100-$125 each time to have the flanges machined because out of the box they won't even bolt to the engine.

Any first hand knowledge of this Holley manifold? Has the little snowflake with a "W" in the center cast into the passenger side of the water crossover...

I know it's the Winter's foundry emblem. The repo had it too...but I doubt it was cast at the original foundry.
Holley probably contracted with the Winter's foundry to cast their intake manifolds. |

As far as I know Holley only made one manifold for a Pontiac motor. I would say it's a Holley Street Dominator manifold. It's a nice manifold and works well as a street manifold. They also are good performance manifolds too, I had one that was modified to fit a Dominator carb and had some runner work too. With ported #16 heads, this manifold and a flat tappet solid cam my 3550lb LeMans broke into the 10's.

Is there a pic of the intake from farther away? Where we can see the whole thing?

I did not note this manifold in Jim hand's book, looking for a nice street unit as OP is...

Edelbrock performer - correct?

Definitely a Performer with the water crossover removed.
Quote:
The Performer RPM is not a Performer with a built in spacer, it is a dual-plane high-rise higher-RPM large-runner design that is not in any way like the Performer. I would choose the Performer RPM for your 400 with the Edelbrock D-port heads. This intake flows well enough to take advantage of your aftermarket heads and the dual-plane design will work well on the street with a manual trans and moderate rear gearing. If you don't have the hood clearance to use the RPM (1.25" taller than stock) I would not hesitate to run the factory iron Q-jet intake. |

I wouldn't consider going with a cast iron manifold with aluminum heads, and would definitely pick a dual plane intake manifold. Every Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold needs to be milled about .060" on each side to have it fit properly, and that is going to add another $80 to the manifold cost.
It looks like none of our Pontiac suppliers are carrying the Crosswind style manifold which is a clone of the RPM (but without the exhaust crossover). I remember reading that they were a nice piece, but wondering why it now has to be ordered on ebay? I did a quick check and the dual plane clone for the RPM isn't on any of our supplier's sites. Also, I guess you could say that Pontiac manifolds were the original "air-gap" design since the manifold has always been divorced from the valley area.

I'm with Bart, it has to be a Performer manifold...

X3, the pipe plugs in the runners look exactly like a performer....so does the rest of the intake....interesting...I sold auto parts for several years, kept up on all the performance stuff, NEVER seen a Holley dual plane...
That huge pipe plug in the #2 runner, close to the head, I've seen on Performers, and SP-2P Edelbrock intakes...I've always wondered what purpose that plug serves...

I bought a Performer RPM several years ago and had it on two different engines with 3 different sets of heads and it always fit perfectly with excellent port alignment. I still have the manifold but don't use it as I have had better results with other manifolds.
