I have a '69 Custom S with the original XS block 350. I swapped out the heads with some 670s and put on new intake for a quadrajet (was running a 2barrel before). I have the stock cam in it, but would like something to produce some more power.
What is a good option for a better cam for me? Also, do you know what size pushrods I need for it? |

Maybe someone can tell me what camshaft came in the '69 400 RAIII motor?

Assuming your car is an automatic, I would go with a cam grind similar
to the specs on a ram air 3 automatic 400 engine. If you want a perfect idle, go with the 067 cam grind. If you want a little more cam go with the 068 grind. My car is an automatic 455 engine with the 067 grind and I love it. It idles perfect and will burn rubber for blocks if you nail it. All the GTO's I get in my shop come in with too much camshaft and they idle terribly and won't get out of their own way when you punch it. Unless you are a drag racer, don't go wilder than the 068 grind on the street. I had a ram air IV cam in my car back in the 90's and I hated it. It idled like crap and the gas mileage was horrendous. |

I do have an automatic. I have th400 in it. I definitely want a nice idle and want it responsive when I punch it. It's not for racing though. Just a nice cruiser with some power when I want it. I'll look into an 067. Thanks!

What was the stock cam for the 350HO? I want to say it was a 067 or 068.

My 350 is not the HO version I don't think. According to the books it was rated at 265 HP with a two barrel.

Right, I was just thinking aloud that the stock cam for the HO might be a good choice given your heads and 4bbl manifold. Might be a good idea to add some Ram Air exhaust manifolds while you are at it.

Good call on the manifolds. I got a set on it now. I don't know why I didn't swap the cam when I did all that work. I wish I had. I'm not sure if I should put new pushrods in the a new cam. I'm thinking I should. But I'm not sure what size.

In '68 the 350 HO used the 067 and 066 cams respectively. |
