Not making the field every week on qualifying times, they purchased provisional starting spots from another team and have used one already. To my knowledge no rookie has had this luxury in the past.

It has happened again – Danica Patrick has been given a free pass into NASCAR, at least for two events at the beginning of the season.
On Friday, Stewart Haas Racing announced they had made a deal with Robinson/Blakeney Racing and acquired points from the No. 49 so that Patrick would not miss the races at Phoenix and Las Vegas. RBR was 42nd in owner points overall in 2012 – so the points exchange may not help as much at Daytona, but will help at the other two tracks in case of inclement weather.
“At Daytona, we know the No. 10 team needs to either qualify on speed or race its way into the Daytona 500 via a strong finish in the Budweiser Duel,” Frood said.
“But if rain cancels qualifying at either Phoenix or Las Vegas, our No. 10 team will be well positioned to earn a provisional starting spot and race on Sunday.”

Richard Petty had 200 wins, 140 of those occurred before 1972 (the beginning of the 'Modern Era'). Granted, before 1972 there were dirt tracks on the schedule, even 50+ race seasons, but after 1972, you had a 30+ race schedule, no dirt tracks, and Petty continued to win. He racked up another 60 wins from 1972-1984. That's an average of 4.6 wins per season, and that wasn't against a bunch of pikers, it was against the likes of David Pearson, Cale Yarborough, Buddy Baker, Darrell Waltrip, Bobby Allison, Bill Elliott, and Dale Earnhardt.

So even if you eliminate all the pre-1972 wins, Petty had 60 wins in 13 seasons, not bad.

Dale Earnhardt had 76 wins in 26 seasons, Jeff Gordon has 81 wins in 22 years.

Danica can get Petty's autograph, but that's about as close as she'll come to being a legend.
