Wish you the best, Ed. The new stuff looks nice. Thanks for the offer on the motor home deal at Norwalk, wish I could take advantage of the offer. Maybe another year my friend.

If the cross drilling is left open, you will have way too much oil to the top end. Best of luck with your engine.
The lifters are Crower 66260-16 Full Body Mechanical Roller Lifters (.842" dia. / .750" Bearing).

I do have a vague note about "Modify Lifter Oiling". I'll take a look later today and see if they are cross-drilled and also measure the clearance between the lifter bars and IA-II block at various lifts.

We had to machine the lifter boss's a bit at the tie bar area for clearance. in the old days -- now I run raised seat lifters and allllll better

I have the same lifters as you, but when I started my motor the first time I wasn't getting any oil up top. I removed the restrictors in the block and still had the same issue. There is a thread about it somewhere on here. I ground a very small grove from the oil hole to the oil band on the lifter. Then the oil seemed fine but I still bought .030" restrictors for my new pushrods.

My tie bars are very close as well, but after having it on the dyno and running in my garage they made no contact. I pulled them out for inspection last year and they looked good.

Good to see its moving forward. Hopefully I'll see you at Norwalk.

Call Crower - you want a raised seat lifter with pin oiler and offset if you need them - they now have the bushing style also -

The contact will depend on the base circle of the cam -- bigger cam = small base sometimes - now you have contact -

I believe you can get those Crowers from Bill Cerralli at Checkered Flag Machine as well.

Is that a Crower issue and not necessarily a BC issue where he is stuck?

Default Crower Roller Lifters

Here are the mods which were done to my crower solid roller lifters. Looks like BES at least tried to resolve some of the lifter bars clearance issues.

You said you put a different profile camshaft in the engine after the BES work, so in this case, maybe you reduced the clearance somewhat based on your new camshafts base circle dimension.

Tom Vaught

ps Better to always ask the question when you see something that doesn't look right.

Ed,
What did the new machine shop do to the heads at the previously welded rocker stud holes?

Watching with great interest and looking forward to even greater news on the finished product...Best of luck.

The cam has been changed, the rocker bar clearance does look tight on a #1 and #3 which are the only 2 which have been installed with the new cam. The block has some marks indicating clearance issues which I don’t believe happened while the new cam was being degreed using test springs.

After they stopped chuckling, we started with a basic exorcism, when that didn’t work, we machined the rocker pads flat so I could have a T&D rocker shaft made and also performed the following:

1) Set it up for dry deck using aluminum plugs
2) Cut o-ring grooves “figure-8”
3) Tapped water x-over holes
4) Drilled and tapped missing water x-over hole in one head
5) Installed heli-coils in rocker stud location and only bottom row exhaust flange
6) Spot face exhaust flange top row bolt holes so I can install header bolts from the top
7) Resurface heads
8) Replaced the valve springs
9) Splashed holy water on the heads and wished me the best of luck

I’ll take a look at my notes to see if I missed anything.

Ideal situation would have been to trim the lifter bosses before the whole assy went together. Would have to install cam bearings in the block and install the camshaft that would be used and measure the tie bar clearance at every position. Then if necessary put the .080" clearance milling in the block bosses. Not Rocket Science.
