As mentioned earlier, the one really alluded to by the term 'Rcok Crusher', is only the M22;
Which had the same gears ratios as the M21, but used straight cut gears - which made the whine.

It's absolute music...

IIRC what I've read correctly, the M22 was developed for the Corvette, and as such, was seldom used in a non-Chevrolet;
Once again, if my memory serves me correctly, the muncie transmissions used in Pontiac's goes like this
1967-1973 wide ratio = M20
1967-1970 close ratio = M21
1971-1972 close ratio = M22
1973 wide ratio = M21*
(iirc there has been some speculation as to actual transmissions used for 1973, and I believe early in the 1974 model year, the only four speed available was the Borg Warner Super T-10)
