Great pic! What many people didn't realize was that James Garner did his own driving in that series, as well as driving in one of the all time classic racing movies "Grand Prix". Garner also drove in the Baja series (off road) in a 1970 Oldsmobile 442.
In later years, he was a spokesperson for Oldsmobile. He appeared at the Oldsmobile 100th Celebration in Lansing back in 1997, and seemed to really enjoy being a car guy. Some more pics: Garner's 70 442, his 68 Corvettes in a showroom, and appearing with the 1979 Trans Am Kammback.

Those were required apparel for Corvette shopping, as well as the sunglasses they are both wearing!

This is a little off current topic but in line with OP topic.
Some high school buddies modeling off my brand new '79 Formula. I recall ordering this car with my dad just after Christmas 1978 and not receiving it until mid-March 1979. When we went to pick up the vehicle at the dealer my dad was so upset about several fitment issues he told them to keep the car and we actually went home without it, I was in shock. The next day they called and promised to fix it all, I didn't care just wanted it in the driveway. Still own this car today and now that I'm looking at the original 2-tone color scheme with decals I really like it and may change back to that look if the car ever gets repainted. |
