Many people didn't embrace the use of stickers on cars back then, feeling that they cheapened a car. I recall reading some of those 'letters to the editor' segments in car magazines back then where enthusiasts spouted off about their dislike of stickers instead of emblems on American cars.

I think the 1968 GTO may have been one of the first GM cars to use them. Strange, but they did away with them for 1969, but stickers returned in full force for 1970, being used on the sides of the car and on the trunk lid of the 1970 GTO.
