Any of you guy's got any used valves for a 347-motor?
Maybe Pontirag will see this and let me know what he's got. I need some used pistons for the 57-wagon motor also. Thanks GT. |

Engine doesn't look bad at all. Do you think the valve stem bores in the heads were harmed at all by removing the old valves? If so, I think you can still buy new oversize-stem valves (+.003"?) from Pioneer. How do the water distribution tubes look? Stainless?

Actually the guides aren't bad at all, The valves them self are rusted bad. The heads cleaned up good I sand blasted them today and are washing them tonight with solvent and laqure thinner. I sent Pontirag a PM to see what parts he might have. The tube in one head looks fine haven't checked the other yet. I'll post some more pics later. GT. |

I was going to tell you how I forgot to replace the two small freeze plugs in the intake face of each head on my last build. But I'm having trouble seeing the plugs in that photo- is there still the sheet metal portion of an intake gasket on that head? My excuse was the fact that the intake faces had been milled and repainted so many times that I simply FORGOT what I was looking at! Then I felt even more foolish as I pulled and replaced the intake manifold a half dozen times, thinking the coolant leak was at the gasket. Duh... hope somebody learns from my mistakes...

As rusty as the heads are on this thing I'm going to replace all the freeze plugs.
One of them at the end of the head is rusted threw. After I blasted the heads I found the weak ones. GT. |

I refuse to answer on these grounds: I've still got the makin's of a '58 engine lying around, so I'll selfishly hold onto my old spare valves!
