That pre-heater shroud appears to be the late '72 455 HO version. The car looks to be a January '72 build and that shroud would probably be correct for that date. That same type of shroud was used on the '73-'74 SD 455's.

thanks for the info, that was something i did not know. i thought all H.O. car's used the same folded/welded type of shroud....

Default HO preheater shrouds

Hi,

I just bought a 72 455 H.O. GTO (WW5 car) and it has an inner and an outer shroud. The outer shroud is the angular version (car is a November 71 build). I've never seen the inner shroud before. Does anyone else have one?

Yes, that's the one. Thanks. I found a photo of it in the illustration manual. It also fits 1969-70 RA IV. Part number for the inner "mystery" preheater shroud is 486082. Part number for outer is 486081 but I don't know if that part number is for the angular or the rounded version.
