Thanks For the link Alvin. I haven't been lurking for long and enjoyed the read about Chastings car. I was in high school a decade later than the movie depicts, but the mid 80s weren't that different - except I drove an 84 Buick and not a GTO . Had I known then what I know now.

Chastings- I'd be interested in seeing your '70 some day as I'm partial to 4 speeds and that's a fun history on your car.

mess1153 - it's great your are keeping your dad's car in the family. You're in a good area for paint and body guys should the need arise.

Yes it is awesome, I am very lucky. I am currently looking for someone that can help me on the mechanical stuff first and then am going to move onto the body. The car is in great shape and drives well (drove it to work today) but doesn't run the way I know it should. Hopefully I will see you out cruising sometime or maybe at the car show in Monroe if I can make it there.

It's not only the cars that make this hobby great but the stories that go with these machines. Welcome and enjoy the car. Also if your parents want to take the car out some evening make sure you give then a curfew.

Gold 67's used to be fairly plentiful out here in the 80's and 90's.
But i don't think any i ever saw had a White Interior.
It's a really sharp car and in great condition.

Think there are about 4 Pontiac oriented clubs in NC now.
Your car would be warmly welcomed at any of their events.

Hello Andy, and welcome to the forum. That's a very nice looking 67 you have, but I'm kinda partial to Signet Gold with black tops. Nicely optioned, too, and like Todd mentioned the interior color is unusual for the outside colors. I like it.
You're really lucky to be able to get back a car with that history, and in such nice condition.
Do you mind telling when it was built and at which plant?

And pay no attention to that Greg Reid fellow. Even though he's one of the most respected and best liked guys on here, he's always telling lies about me.

Yes - I was aware the Signet Gold was a popular color, but typically over a black or gold interior. This was the first new car my parents purchased after they got married. My dad wanted a GTO but it was primarily my mom's car, so I'm sure she helped steer my dad with the order sheet. They wanted this color combo and ordered it November 23, 1966 from Stewart Pontiac Co. It was built at the Pontiac plant (#9848) and delivered to them in Florida on December 28, 1966. The build date code on the body tag is 12A 1. Looks like they we're building them quick from the order date that year. I have the original dealer order sheet filled out in pencil by the dealer and signed by my dad in blue ink - kind of neat.

The previous owner did a great job putting it back together after storage. It still has the original dash, headliner, upholstery, carpet, even the floor mats. It does have some interior wear/patina from the days my mom drove the four of us kids around in it, but that's part of its charm. He has a shop in Mooresville and has been restoring Pontiacs, Chevy's, and Mopars since the 1970s. He says it's one of the best driving cars he has owned and after driving it myself the last few months, I'd have to agree with him.

I have family in Raleigh so maybe someday I can bring along the car and connect with you. Would be good to pick up some tips on maintaining a '67.

Thank you Todd. There does seem to be a lot of active Pontiac clubs in the Triad and Traingle area. Surprisingly the Charlotte area appears to have less activity, but I'm sure I'll connect with a few. I did make it to the AutoFair last week. Decent turnout and lots of great cars to see.

For those of you who are interested and have been following this thread, I've attached a few more photos of the car. The first is from around the time my parents sold it in 1978. Notice it has the wire wheel discs in this photo (I still have them). The second is from 23 years later when it was pulled out of the barn for transport down to NC. It was sporting Rally II's at the time and some of the trim and front end was removed and transported separately with the motor & trans. The third is a photo from around 2001/2002 after it was restored by the last owner.

Those old wire wheels were not well liked in the "hobby" but very costly at the time.

I restored my first car, a 68 GTO and kept them on, pain to restore due to the many spokes and pieces of chrome and SS, but they looked really nice I thought.

The wire wheels from my car are in surprisingly good condition. My dad used to detail them with a toothbrush and chrome cleaner all the time - lol. Guess it paid off. When I got older, I had to keep the family car cleaned and waxed in order to get the keys for a drive. He would come out and "inspect" it before I could head out.

Great looking car; really like the gold with vinyl top. It looks like the PO did a really good job putting the car back together. I like the wire wheels and rallye II's, both give the car a different look.

My dad has a granada gold 67 Camaro he bought new. It had wire wheel covers that were very similar. I remember it took forever to polish the spokes but they really set the car off. We still have the car but now it sports rallyes with front and rear spoiler and looks like almost every other 1st gen camaro out there....

Also amazes me how many folks we have here from NC....

I went to the autofair on Friday--it was still fairly busy but actually quite tolerable with overcast skies. As far as GTO's I remember seeing a really nice pepper green 70 convertible and a really nice cr 69 Judge. Not as many 1st gen Camaro's as years past and nothing much seemed to be selling.
