I gave up on HPP years ago. Once and a while, I would pick it up on the newsstand, but it was NEVER as good of a purely Pontiac magazine as Thunder-Am was.

What we're witnessing is HHP infiltrating Hot Rod Magazine, a broader audience which in turn just might bring the Pontiac Heritage back to life. Segregation was obviously a fail.

I mentioned to HPP that they needed a name change to stay viable and increase circulation, I proposed "All Performance Pontiac"
If Kalmbach publishing had HPP, this wouldn't have happened. They have a massive direct marketing program, and interactive website for some magazines, and a newswire feed for some too. Many people though... do a "TLDR" attitude about anything over 1 sentence... ( too long didn't read) TLDR

I was reading the Chicago Tribune Business section this morning and read that Source Interlink's McCook, IL. distribution center was laying off 244 workers and changing their name to The Enthusiast Network. Sadly a lot of people besides the magazine staffs are out of work.

I got the October issue in the mail today, and was surprised there was no mention inside about it being the last one.

Ditto. If it wasn't for this forum, we wouldn't have a clue.

Strange that they don't say anything? No thank you, kiss my ass or take this job and shove it?

When they were making that issue, I am sure they had no idea the end was near. Remember, HPP wasn't giving you a farewell.

I still have at least a couple years subscription to HPP and had given gift subscription to customers and friends.
I guess they will send something else out to try to make up the difference. Probably something that I could care less about. No more extended subsriptions for me. I have been a POCI member since 1986 and think Smoke Signals is a real nice magazine.

I know there's a several month lead time on magazines, but I figured they would at least squeeze in something in the monthly note from the editor at the front of the magazine. Years ago I subscribed to Cycle magazine, and when they were shut down that's what they did. Of course, that was in pre-internet days so there was no warning beforehand.

Got my OCT. issue today.
My mailing label has Jan 2016 on it. Too bad this is the last issue.

When I wrote articles for HPP, it would be several months before they were printed and distributed. Guess that is part of the demise - old news

Looked at the new Hot Rod today. There was actually a tech article of the Pontiac 400. I was moderately shocked to say the least.

On that note, I truely believe that if the Pontiac Division of GM were still around, so would this magazine and so would be the reversal of lost interest in the Pontiac hobby. Seems that enthusiam has leveled off and means to bring new people into the Pontiac realm are few and far between. How is it that THREE different MOPAR related magazines can be susutained on newstands but not one Pontiac? Pontiac did out sell MOPAR during the Muscle Car era so where are those enthusiasts? Hopefully another publisher may see the value in a new Pontiac magazine or, even a BOP magazine that GM may back. After all, how many car magazines are out there headlining orphaned cars?

Got HPP today and read it cover to cover right away. (OK I did skip over the G8 article a little but will probably read it all later)
Not only no mention of this being the last issue, on page 31 they mention next month's story on the '74 GTO. I guess we will be waiting on that for a while. And they still had the pull out subscription card stuck in there. I know there is a delay from when articles are written until they are printed but, these mags were just printed a couple of days ago, they could have pulled the cards out. They are just hoping to get somebody's money yet and switch them over to HotRod . Not going to get mine! I used to get as many as 6 mags a month but now Smoke Signals is the only one.

Speaking of orphans, Plymouth, DeSoto, and Imperial are catered to by the Mopar magazines. |
