I got the 06' GTO seats in today. I'm extremely happy I did this. My maiden voyage with them was fantastic. Im honestly pissed at myself that I spent the $ trying to restore the stock seats with the Legendary Rallye setup at this point. I'm trying to decide if i'm going to sell them. I might let someone else have them at a good price instead of storing them for 20 years....

Anyhow the 06' GTO seats are awesome. They sit great, have 8 way power mobility and are about the same weight as stock seats. Anyone that says they "sit up too high" must have been 6'9" and had stock buckets with broken springs in the lower seat before. I'm 6'1" + a touch and I sit in them great. They are a touch lower than my newly stuffed stockers.

I did reuse my 3" seat relocation brackets I made for the stock buckets. I figured it would allow me to run the seats forward to fit me correctly and hide the bracketry I made. I used a couple pieces of 1/8" x 1.5" wide x 3.25" long steel for the front. I used 3/16" x 1.5" angle iron for the rears. I shaved the rear angle iron down to 1" so it would clear the floor and give max headroom. Then its 12v on the red wire and a ground on the black. The install is pretty easy and straight forward. I'm going to make a thread detailing what is needed to get it done and ill link it here. If you have tools and and know what to do it's probably like a 4-5 hour job.

I am leaning toward doing the same I wish I had not invested the ton of money doing my seats and just gone with the new ones . I hate how stiff they are and my head touches the headliner. What steering column are you using I need a tilt to make it easier to get in the car now my head also hits the drip rails getting in the car I used the foam and springs from opg should have just spent the 600 for the newer seats. Looks great.

I had the same issue with my seats when I bought my car. Turns out the foam installed was the cheap variety ($79 as I recall) so I bought the $200 set, had the seats redone, and now I can drive without my head rubbing on the headliner. And I'm barely 5'10" so it's not like I'm extremely tall.

I'm just not 100% sure I like the look of mixing new/old styles. Anyone look into fitting a seat from a year with headrests?

I'm not 100% in love with the style of the modern GTO seat. I have thought about having a local guy recover them like a 1967 seat so they blend a bit better. The stock low backs look better for sure, but they suck to ride in. The 06 seats are worlds better in terms of comfort and adjust ability. Its a no brainier for me.

The foam set was from opg and was the good set.

I got my stock steering column converted by GMTILT.com. HE converts stock non-tilt columns to fully functional, rebuilt tilt columns. I'm pretty sure there are pictures back a few pages about the install. I am extremely happy with the tilt. Well worth the money.

I will ask if I decide to go that route. Did you ever consider using seats from a 69 or newer pontiac with head rests, or was that not an option for you?

Nope not an option. If im going to the hassle of putting something in that wasnt going to look right, it was going to be extremely comfortable and none of those old seats really are.
